One of the best ice creams in Melbourne! Ice cream isnât a default dessert of mine but Lutherâs has become an immediate âYESâ anytime. The ice-cream is rich and flavourful. The flavours are bold in a âIâm here and this is who I amâ kind of way. Youâre not going to get your typical flavours and youâre going to see some clever creativity with raspberry choc chip, malt chocolate, vanilla custard, passionfruit and lemon custard, brown butter cheesecake - this place is the opposite of ordinary. If youâre looking for plain chocolate and plain vanilla kind of flavours, this isnât your place. If youâre looking for rich and interesting, yet comforting too (like with banoffee or butterscotch ripple) then make a bee line here.
Weâve tried nearly every flavour. Their earl grey is amazing. Think French earl grey intensity and fragrance (in the taste, not smell - youâll know what I mean if you have sensitive tastebuds). However itâs got chocolate in there which gives it more texture than taste. I donât mind it as the earl grey is simply divine.
The banoffee is packed full of unctuous lashings of the âoffeeâ and crisp crust. If you like banoffee, youâll go weak at the knees.
The chocolate malt is delicious. Rich yet malty. Even my four year old can recognise the malt.
The vanilla custard is my personal go to. Itâs so full of vanilla pod seeds - you know youâre eating quality.
I could go on but I think you get the point. Go to Lutherâs, you must.
On location, weâve been to their Brunswick and Thornbury stores. Brunswick has outdoor benches but itâs tight. Thornbury has indoor benches no tables. This isnât a place to come and sit and hang out. But the ice-creamâŠ. Yum.
Ps: if youâre comparing to a Messina or Seven Apples of Biancolatte etc, it definitely is up there. Itâs hard to compare to Messina as theyâve got such a huge range, but on quality, Iâd say Lutherâs...

REVIEW: đ Giving you an opportunity to try before you buy, Lutherâs Scoops has some unique flavours that youâll want to take advantage of. I tried the earl chocolate, and it was hard for me to pass up. Earl grey as a flavour has a slightly fruity citrus taste that makes it a recognisable and a distinct tea flavour. Combined with chocolate (I never thought Iâd enjoy chocolate and fruit) I appreciated the crunch. đ«
Although itâs a small store, the yellow retro outfit, handwritten/hand drawn elements makes it feel like your local ice cream store. đ Friendly staff, she advised that the brown butter cheesecake is the cold favourite with Earl Grey chocolate coming second. Wasnât a big fan of the wooden spoons which does impact a weird cardboard taste that I find to distort the flavour a little. Iâm just picky like...
Read moreHey ice cream lovers! đŠ Just discovered Luther's Scoops, and wow - this isn't your average ice cream shop! These folks are all about REAL ingredients. My daughter went crazy for their fig leaf flavor (who knew that could be delicious?), and my son was totally won over by their creamy vanilla custard (actual vanilla seeds!) What makes them special? They're using locally sourced ingredients and putting ACTUAL flavor pieces in their scoops. That passionfruit lemon was like biting into fresh fruit - so refreshing on a hot day. You can totally taste the difference when a place cares about quality. *8vD Their constantly changing menu means there's always something new to try. It's not just ice cream, it's a local food experience that supports Melbourne producers. Definitely worth a special trip. Your taste buds will...
