Melbourne cafes should visit here as an educational experience(like Masters level), because they would learn how to run a brilliant cafe/gourmet food etc etc (with a side dish of sharp comedic genius.) Everything here is always so spot on, the brilliant coffee, the dazzling array of baked goods, savoury and sweet and so much more. I visit the region often as a decompression from city life, but enough about me in this mini Ted talk; but my point is in over 20+ visits everything culinary and caffeine-ary is always amazing and interwoven in this is outstanding customer service and interaction, the staff are lovely and absolutely damn hilarious; that interactive banter is the gold standard. Brilliant work as always by this crew. Today (and yesterday)I had coffee that was impeccable and also a lush duck pastie with fantastic plum sauce that was sensational.Keep up the great work, all the hipster cafes in Melbourne could learn a thing or twenty from you. Until...
Read moreA total winner! Stopped in on a whim and what a GEM! Gorgeous French specialty pastry work, lovely small selection of pies, sausage rolls (lamb, fetta, olive the special today - superb!) made on site. Coffee was beaut . Some generously portioned and forward-thinking gluten free/sugar free delicious raw desserts on offer too (raw tahini and cacao slice, which my daughter happily consumed thinking it was a caramel slice), raw lemon slice and a chia/halva slice that left everyone feeling bloody sensational and thankful that we eyed off the pretty little place en route to Warburton. A small family run business, stop in for a pie, you won't be disappointed - sit in the back room flooded with northern sunlight; they'll serve your pie with some lovely roquette before you've got a chance to say 'how good is this place?". Then nab a sweet treat (raw or real)...
Read moreI stayed last weekend in the Postmaster’s cottage (the other half of the building) and found the Flying Apron utterly charming. I ended up dropping in twice a day for coffee and food, and the staff were always friendly and super helpful. My only regret is that this place was always so busy with locals coming and going that there wasn’t really time to linger for a chat.
Everything I ate was super fresh and absolutely great, whether an egg and chorizo tart for breakfast or a lemon curd cake for afternoon tea. This is one of those places that radiates great energy - the staff clearly really like each other and are always joking and laughing with customers and each other while they are serving. They were even going to give me a swimming spot recommendation but then the weather turned cold and rainy. If I could give more than 5 stars I...
