A horrible experience. My friends and I came at a busy time (brunch on a Saturday morning) and were told that there was a 30 minute wait. No worries at this point, we occupied ourselves. The wait ended up being 50 minutes. When we were walked in to be seated, we were told our table was outside. To wait almost an hour for an outside table is kind of preposterous, especially because it was quite cold. Even worse, because we were waiting outside near this table, we saw that it had been available for at least 30 mins before we were called in.

We finally sat. 15 minutes go by, no one comes to take our order. The other outside table is seated in this time, and a server immediately rushes to them and takes their order. We assume that the waiter will come to us after them, nope - she walks past. We have to flag her down to order. It takes another 45 minutes to get our food. In this time, the other outside table is served, has finished their food, and leaves.

Genuinely the worst brunch service I have ever been to. The food was alright at best, the service is dismal. Our weekend morning/early afternoon was wasted...

Good but boy do they have tickets on themselves.

Monday, had breakfast, asked for a simple substitution, was told it would ruin the composition of the dish and the kitchen would refuse it. It's breakfast, you're a cafe, you're also the only cafe that has ever refused something as simple as scrambled instead of poached.

I can name 15 cafes in spitting distance of home that wouldn't bat an eye. Is this a case of isolation breeding contempt?

Coffee is good, nothing to write home about.

Went to pay, was presented with a tip screen. Really? You get paid some of the highest award wages in the world, hell no. Don't even ask, it's pathetic.

Tuesday, just coffees, waiter decided to argue with my wife instead of clarifying. Wife asked what the difference was between small and large? Was one a mug?

Waiter stated, technically they're both mugs, no, one is a cup, one was a mug, don't make petty squabbles.

Not sure where the attitude comes from.

We'll be back but...

Good food, really nice coffee (Nitro is excellent) but incredibly slow service. Often long waits for tables which is expected in at peak season but then wait staff is slow to come to your table, and drinks and kitchen even slower. We’ve eaten here 5 or 6 times over the past 3 weeks and each time is the same. Staff are lovely and apologetic but the rhythm of the service is off and makes you feel forgotten. Once we were forgotten entirely and had to ask for assistance, twice, to order. By the time they came to take our order they were out of a number of items. Several times our food ordered before beers. Other times we were done our drinks, 15-20 mins before food arrived (would have ordered others had we been asked). Overall good meals. Just need to iron out the timing of the service and this place would...

Love coming to the Somers general. We are always greeted by friendly staff, met with great service, and amazing food and coffee. I always order the shakshuka baked eggs which comes with cherry tomatoes, baked eggs, chorizo, pickled onion, fried caper crumb and house made focaccia. It’s so god damn delicious, I can never get enough. Everything in the dish pairs well together. You get a nice crunch from the caper crumb, to the soft oozy eggs, and the slight tang of the pickled onions. What I also love about the dish is the house made focaccia. It’s always so soft and fresh. I would ask for more focaccia if I were you. I would definitely recommend coming to Somers general for a great feed. What’s even better is it’s right across from the beach so afterwards you can have a nice stroll to walk off all that food.

I was told about the Somers General to try their menu. So I tried the "Blueberry Ricotta Hotcake" with buckwheat crumb, macerated strawberries, double cream and maple syrup. I have been making all sorts of pan cakes for the last 40+ years of my life. I can tell you all now, the pancake dish I had from The Somers General was perfect, and very well presented, customers service was excellent and the staff were great to deal with. The pancake was light and filling for breakfast with a nice coffee latte on the side, and I was still full for lunch. I will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu. 5 Star Rating for food & Service. The sea view is also fantastic from the The Somers General. Thank you for a great morning, and start to the day.

Late lunch here on a Fri recently - still pretty busy at past 1.30 pm but was given a lovely spot overlooking the Bay. Falafel with salad was awesome! However I made the wrong choice of sparkling wine (Foxy's Hangout) to go with it. Two tangy flavours clashed. Menu is limited but they do it well by the looks of it. Parking is right across but beach goers will claim it when weather is good. But more free parking along esplanade. Friendly service. Boutique retail shop here too & you can pick up a healthy home made takeaway to enjoy on the beach. I will definitely be back. Loved the rustic charm & prime location across Somers Beach.
