Staying at the Rydges for the week as working in town a Portuguese work mate and I decided to head to the bar while we waited for the restaurant to open. Drinks were all good. No complaints there. The restaurant opened so we looked over the menu. Extreme prices for practically the same food as the bar menu cooked by the same chefs but just a little more jazzed up and a bit more expensive. We decided on the bar food to save about $80 each. The Jerk chicken plate for two came in hot and tasted great. I can't complain. This is where matey made a huge mistake. He ordered a calamari for two 165kms from the ocean. Which later became an ordeal for him. We got the chicken parmigiana mains. When the food came to the table from the waiter she slid it on the table and walked away. Rude service we wouldn’t expect from a fancy looking place like that but that didn’t really bother us as the lads working the bar were all good. The chicken was deep fried in what tasted like old reused oil that filled these chickens like sponges. It had an odd small piece of cheese on top covering 1/5th of the chicken and a very strange tasting brown tomato herb topping. The side salad was a mix of rocket, lettuce and one piece of onion with a lemon and vinegar dressing that was more sour then mateys face in the morning after his sleepless night in agony. The chips were packet frozen Cole’s gear, not even hand made as you’d expect from a place like this. We retired to our rooms at 2000hrs and this is when mateys problems begun.. he stated in the morning that 2050hrs he fell asleep feeling a bit funny in his Turkish round which later I learned was his stomach. 0200hrs he wakes with heavy sweats, intense gut pain and feeling extremely sick. He rushed to the toilet thinking he would be violently ill but it went the other way and the valve piece gave way. He then spent 1 hour on the toilet and he figured he had flushed the seafood poison. Back to sleep he goes. 0500hrs round two. His noot noot quivers and gives way again this time just barely making it to the bathroom where he sat for another 45minutes of pain and shame... for what we expected to be a really good place for dinner turned out to have bad consequences for matey. I’d heard great things from people who had stayed here before in the past but maybe standards had slipped since then. The bar needs to be raised. Wouldn’t attend again for food.

Read moreThe worst eatery EVER. When you have to return everyone’s meals “Two times” each and still get poor food, there is a serious problem, and it was clearly with the kitchen. The food was cold, served on cold plates, and was completely deprived of any flavouring enhancements such as gravy and sauces. When we gave our preferences as to how we liked our steaks cooked, we were told that steaks would only be cooked medium/rare. The tables had no tablecloths and our table was not clean. The staff were nice and tried their best to sort the problems but when the kitchen continually fails, you are never going to win. I won’t go into details about every meal other than to say not one of them was edible. We even turned our deserts back as we were so disgusted with the mains. Other patrons were clearly experiencing the same issues based on what we saw and heard. We even asked to speak to the chef so that we could provide feedback directly, but he or she didn’t come out. For the ridiculous price we were charged it was a gigantic fail, and the chef should be dismissed. Make an effort and drive into town where I am sure you will find better eateries. Avoid CHICANE at all cost even if it means...
Read moreRestuarant Chicane at Mount Panorama - Overpriced with less than palatable meals. We ordered the following at 735pm: Entree: Octopus $30, small serving and bland flavour Mains: half rack of lamb $85 and T-bone steak $55 both to be cooked as medium rare. The half rack of lamb was served as cutlets due to the cooking time required and the restuarant closing at 830. Both meals were over cooked to well done. The vegetables were inedible due to overseasoning of salt. The mash had a questionable texture and flavour that resembled packet potato. We were incredibly disappointed with our meals and were unable to finish them. For the price point, we expected a fine dining experience with flavours to match. The ambience in the restuarant was awful, lots of paint work in progress and stains on the carpet. Serving staff were not attentive or present when needed. The resturant has a long way to go to satisfy the wider community during the bathurst...
