The White Hart Hotel in Murrurundi sits on the main road of the town. There is a great atmosphere about the place, the bar was full during happy hour on a Thursday night, you can tell the locals get amongst it as the owner shares a beer with half a dozen mates.
We called ahead of time to ensure we could camp out the back in our van. The paddock is lovely - green grass, nice and flat with a flowing river past the fence. There is room for about 6 vans. Next we had a shower upstairs at the hotel. $5 each, on the steeper end of showers we’ve had however we were treated with a newly renovated ensuite and no timer so the $5 almost seems fair.
Next we ordered dinner at the bar. Thursday’s they run a $40 deal for two pizzas, garlic bread and a 1.5L of soft drink. Sounds familiar to most pizzas places - pretty good deal. Veggo options on the menu were also extremely limited so pizza it was. The food was ... not good. Pre-made pizza bases not good. Ridiculous amount of cheese. They forgot our garlic bread and it was dry once it made it to us. And they had run out of 1.5L bottles of coke. We felt ripped off.
They appeared to have an abundance of staff, all of whom were extremely friendly. We would camp here again however would skip dinner and simply support the owners with a schooner or two.
Thanks...
Read moreThe worst pub meal we have experienced when we ate here a week ago. It was mentioned that they were training someone, but that is no excuse. The table of six who ordered before us were served one at time, 10 or so minutes apart. Two of their steaks were returned for being raw. After a 90 minute wait I was about to ask for our money back when hubby's meal came out. He had the burger with chips. The one star is for the chips. The meal size was small. When hubby opened his burger to check that the meat patty was cooked, it appeared to be deep fried. There was a charred lump of something pressed into the bun, which we later identified as bacon as hard as a rock! It also appeared to be deep fried. At this point, the table after us got a refund and left. My chicken pasta arrived. The serving size was large, and I was anticipating a doggy bag for leftovers. However poor presentation, that I normally don't care too much about, reflected a pasta that was not cooked in places, and a taste that was unappetizing. Both of us ate just enough to satisfy our hunger, wishing we had saved our money and not decided on a rare night out. We were offered a free garlic bread by the waitress but had enough disappointment...
Read moreHad to change my review from 7 years ago. Our latest experience with the food was less than desirable. Three Parmigiana and one schnitzel was ordered. The parmigiana seemed to be made using regular tomato sauce and the schnitzel tasted rancid. On making our disappointment known, we were informed that they had run out of sauce for the parmigiana and substituted as we expected with tomato sauce. Running out of the correct ingredients on a dedicated night shows incompetence. I suspect that there’s no one qualified to run the kitchen. The schnitzel had apparently been rendered in bacon fat. Don’t know if this particular taste is what was meant to be or somewhere in the preparation things went off. Either way it’s unpalatable! I won’t be risking any return visits to this hotel. I hope for their future that appropriate staff and food handling...
