This review lacks specific accuracy and details on the food and costs are lax. Please take this into account
The restaurant appears to have 3 or possibly 4 sections (we didn't go exploring) The outside section we avoided as it was night and cold but others were frequenting that section so I can only assume it had some type of heating
Where we sat was adjacent to another room where I believe the pizza cooking went on? The heat seemed to flow into our room making it nice and warm with that natural heating feeling instead of that air-conditioning fake warmth you can often get. There was another room further away from the kitchen yet past our room
Our table sat at least 8 people if required, other tables in the room looked similar with smaller ones available. Furniture was rugged looking and the floor concrete, deliberately left a tad bit uneven but not trip over uneven, like what you would find in a very old concrete floor if you had demolished the walls. That rough and rugged look. I thought it would be cold given the night was cold but it wasn't and the room was wonderfully warmed I think from the wood fired oven on the room adjacent (sorry for the tardy review, I didn't explore the place)
The tables were quite far apart from each other, at least 2m, which meant noise and conversation from other tables didn't interfere with yours
The cost of the pizza was fair considering the pizza sizes but it seemed higher than the quick online cost assessment I did before we walked in. Garlic bread was generous and pizza toppings were generous. I ordered anchovies on my pizza and the amount put on was very generous (this impressed me). We ordered a pizza per person as the pizzas appear to be thin based but given the good amount of topping, most found the pizza more than sufficient per person, with 1 person sharing their pizza with another as they couldn't eat it all. Another 2 shared a pizza but found it not quite enough
We had an assistance dog with us which day quietly under the table and gave other patrons a surprise when we got up to leave and the waitress who escorted is to our table didn't make a big deal about which was nice
You need to go up to the service counter to order but the pizza is delivered to your table when cooked, this is despite the waitresses first coming to your table to explain the process. It would be fairly easy to combine them and have table service in my opinion which would bolster the restaurant experience for almost no extra waitressing time
Time from ordering to delivery is quite long, longer than some places. At least 30+ minutes, possibly 40+ (I didn't specifically track this) but I suspect it's because you are competing with the constant number of pick up orders that are happening as judged by the number of cars arriving regularly. It mad me think pick up is given preference? Most of these pick up occur from another area so that traffic doesn't flow through the restaurant. The more than adequate topping on the pizzas probably adds to the longer wait time but as I said, this review is very lax and I didn't pay specific attention to details. I'll do that in a follow up review as we fully intend to go back to this restaurant again
Nothing was unpleasant, decor was rugged but this was part of the overall theme. Longer delivery to the table time was because we picked a popular time to visit the restaurant we were competing with pick up service. Pizzas were all delivered fairly quickly one after another once the first pizza arrived (possibly about 35-40 mins?) with a slight extra delay of around 5 mins between the second last and last pizza but this delay was mentioned by the waiter who informed us, so communication on this was ok
I normally list prices and are more accurate in my reviews but this review is disjointed and lacking specifics so these sorts of details will have to wait until the next time I visit and the will be a next time, this is one place I'm happy...
Read moreLots of good reviews and i wish I could leave a positive review but I can't. Here is the short version of the events that came to this review conclusion.
The place has an amazing ambience and the smell that hits you when you walk into the place is awesome pure Woodfired and smokey smell of pizza cooking. It really does set the scene. The place is small but comfortable. We made a reservation for 630 pm arrived at 639. Orders taken by 7pm. It all went down hill from here.
We have 2 young kids under 8. We have now waited about 1 hour. We are getting agitated as it seems no one is being served pizza. Other tables are still ahead of us. No one has come to tell us what's going on. 1 hour and 10 minutes later we get a young girl come and give us our first pizza which is burnt. She appolgizes and said they burnt it and we would not need to pay for it. By now my daughter is crying from being so hungry. We tell the girl politely this is unacceptable the place is only half full and we have waited over an hour for pizza.
She goes away 10 minutes later a young man comes and gives us a pizza and says we made the last girl cry and throws the pizza on the table and walks away. Really?. Grow up. Take the criticism. That's business. We have the right to voice our concerns.
By the time all our pizzas come its over 1.5 hours for 3 pizzas.
When we left we asked to speak to a manager there was no manager the entire joint was run by 15 year olds. It is not their fault. It's the managers fault here.
We appolgized to the girl who cried as that was not the intention here but I guess any criticism from adults at a 15 year old can be confronting.
Even after 1.5 hours wait you would expect the pizza to at least be out of this world and i guess it was OK at best.
Unfortunately we won't be going back they dropped the ball on this one and could of also dealt with the whole...
Read moreAlong the Great Western Highway, you'll pass by this roadside pizzeria that boasts a stunning view of the mountains as you snack on a slice. To our dismay, it was raining that day and so we were seated inside a cold, bare setting. The inside of the restaurant is very bleak compared to the outside where you can warm your hand on the fireplaces and gaze at the night sky. The service was just as minimal as the decor, customers were required to order, get cutlery and serve water themselves. After ordering, our Greek salad came quickly only to be missing a quintessential ingredient: olives. It took a few attempts to get the attention of the staff as they were no assigned waiters, we had to patiently wait for the chance for one of them to swing by the dining area and ask for the olives. Most of them were busy in the kitchen with no one to take care of us throughout the dinner. The Greek salad kept us in good spirits with its fresh vegetables enrichrd with a precise measure of dressing. Despite having three cooks in the open kitchen, it took a whopping 45 minutes for the pizza to arrive. Although I understand the kitchen was backed up with takeaway orders, there was no sense of urgency to their movements, leaving diners stranded in a cold room. Our long-awaited large Hartley pizza and small Siena pizza possessed a generous amount of toppings and cheese with a perfectly cooked, crunchy base. The creaminess of the pumpkin balanced with a sour kick from the artichokes has really opened my eyes to the splendour of vegetarian pizzas and I can thank the Siena for that. The Hartley is a solid carnivore pizza with a classic pepper and smoky taste. I can see why locals flock to this place for some rustic pizza but next time, opt for takeaway rather than waste away in their barren, uninviting restaurant. Pizza as a comfort food tastes better when you feel...
