We went to purchase a $4.50 loaf of bread and we only had $4.40. The rude lady said the surcharge was 50 cents if we wanted to use a debit card. We did not buy the bread because of the fee.

Upon further investigation, the ACCC have bans on excessive merchant fees, specifically on items under $10. The recommended fee for debit/eftpos/tap and go is 0.5% and 1% on Credit Cards.

Extract from the ACCC website:

"If the business decides to charge a 50 cent surcharge for all card payments on transactions less than $10 and a customer buys a coffee for $4, that surcharge is a 12.5% surcharge. This would exceed the businesses cost of acceptance for that transaction"

The bakery wanted to impose a 11.1% fee on their $4.50 loaf of bread, therefore they have exceeded the cost of acceptance and I will be reporting them to the ACCC.

I don’t know what kind of magic was baked into these custard tarts, but I’m 90% sure they hold the secret to world peace. The crust? Flaky and buttery, like it was handcrafted by pastry angels. The custard? So smooth and creamy, I’m convinced it whispered sweet nothings to my taste buds.

I took one bite and suddenly remembered all my childhood dreams.. Becoming an astronaut, winning an Olympic medal, befriending a dolphin. These tarts filled the void I never knew existed.

I ordered 2 mud cakes for a birthday party because they could not make one large one. Everyone at the party loved the taste of the cake. It was very chocolatey and delicious. The cake wasn’t very wide but because it was so high it served all of our 18 guests with a little left over. I added some sliced strawberries to the top. The second cake we saved for the next day when someone else had a birthday. The leftovers we divided up and took home because the cake was so good. Still enjoying some of it today.
