Before I start I would like to admit some of the food here is of a good standard…. if you get what you ordered. I did not. You stand at the front of the establishment and order. This can be a slow process if the person at the cash register is also getting take-away sushi etc. I found the employee at the cash register a little vacant. With six items ordered she made a mistake with two. When I brought her attention to this fact she told me to wait while she served others. Another lovely lady came up and helped me. When my meal came it was incorrect and brought by the same lovely person who helped me earlier. I told her it was incorrect. She was rushed off her feet and I decided to leave things as they were. Instead of karaage chicken, I received a hamburger with a beautifully cooked chicken schnitzel and home-made chutney. I didn’t want the bread and left the bun. I also missed out on the salad I was hoping to receive. Next to me was a woman sitting at a table with her dog that barked when other dogs walked by.. Its bark was loud and extremely high-pitched. Unpleasant to say the least. Two sushi rolls, the incorrect main meal, one beer, one smoothie. a rather dry small brownie and a very small cheesecake cost over $80. I had been looking forward to visiting this establishment and travelled over an hour and a half to get there. I won’t be returning.. The hinterland on the way through...

It seems that the owners of this Cafe have lost touch with their customers. They have plenty of service staff to take your order (albeit with a 15 minute wait). After that you're on your own.

1.5 hours for 6 takeaway sushi rolls is beyond outrageous. It would have been respectful to customers to advise about the extensive delays when the orders were taken.

There was no communication and clearly no one managing the place outside of the kitchen.

When I asked for an update on the timing of my order after 50 minutes I was told I had to wait until someone from the kitchen came out to the front of the cafe, and to ask them... simply passing the buck to someone that might or might not appear.

They keep on taking order after order when they have no capacity to fulfil them - that is a serious breach of trust in food service.

I understand it's a busy time of year. However, there's nothing surprising about that in this region, and it's simply a matter of being prepared and caring about your customers.

My previous visit to Doma was a positive experience. Unfortunately there won't be a next time for me..

It's either arrogance or incompetence. Either way literally don't...

Doma Cafe is without a doubt my favourite Sushi place this side of the Northern Rivers. Tucked away quietly in the cute little town of Federal, just 25 mins inland from Byron Bay, it is also easily accessible via Mullumbimby, Bangalow, Lismore etc. I love everything that is on offer here, your taste buds really go on a culinary journey from burgers, tasty chips and scrumptious salads to my favourite the Sushi, especially the Salmon stick. They also make great coffee! I highly recommend this friendly and accommodating venue as you won't be disappointed, all the staff are so lovely, humbly and busily making everything fresh from scratch, which means your meals can take a little while depending on what you order however it is worth the wait! From local musicians on the weekends, dogs and children all blending together in a beautiful, cruisy atmosphere of harmony and chillaxation. It's also nice to bring your own blanket to sit on as seating can be limited due to it's popularity however it's also nice to share a table with friendly strangers, who knows you may even make a friend or two. They are open Mon-Fri 7:30am - 2:30pm, Sat-Sun...

The best meal I have had all year. An outstanding Japanese experience. I had been for breakfast a few times, and it was sensational so I was excited to try their dinner service but was completely blown away. I’m not one to usually leave a review, but this meal definitely called for it. Seating was in an outdoor enclosed area, which I was a little apprehensive of due to the cold, though there were so many heaters I hardly needed a jacket, it created the most cozy feel. The service was like no other, from the moment we were seated we were treated like family. All the waiters were very knowledgeable, warm and kind. We pretty much tried the whole menu and there isn’t one dish that we didn’t love. It wasn’t just food but art. Flavours we had never even considered. It was truely a special meal. My favourite was the sake shooter or the main tuna. It was literally the best fish i’ve ever had, completely melting like butter. I can’t wait to come back for any occasion, and truely couldn’t congratulate the team behind doma more. True hospitality and sensational food. This is what it means to be an outstanding restaurant.

Looks appealing, but disappointing taste and portion size for the high price. I wish I had better to say but after 2 trips to Japan, I definitely can say the food did not taste authentic at all. The chicken kaarage was super bland and I couldn't taste half the other ingredients. None of what I could taste went well together either. The chicken should have been crisp, peppery and slightly spicy but it was soft and tasteless. The chips with my wife's burger were also super floppy and soft and the bun was very soggy and not crisp. It was a 2 hour return drive so ultimately for the price of $75 for 2 mains and 2 drink specials, it was a bummer. You couldn't taste the coconut in my special coffee either, so the flavours were really missing throughout. Service was a bit chaotic with people skipping the queue and wandering everywhere. Yelling out people's names every 5 seconds for drinks got annoying very fast too; please just use wireless beepers like everyone else. Oh and you better get a seat in the shade too if you don't want to get absolutely barbecued in the sun.
