We (party of 3) are from Toronto, Canada and have travelled/dined extensively around the globe. Having decided to spend Christmas in the Blue Mountains of Australia, we selected this dining room based upon the Google reviews (5.0), a review of their website and proximity to our accommodations. I had some pretty high expectations when this reservation was booked and we are pleased to report that they exceeded them all. This dining EXPERIENCE is one of the best we have had. Reservations with this establishment are highly recommended.

On this particular occasion we arrived early and after 'checking in' with the dining room, went for a stroll around the premises (highly recommended!). Initially, the stroll was to take in the breathtaking setting in the Megalong Valley of the Blue Mountains - it is exquisite. You then notice the gardens, the green houses, the orchards and yes, even some of the livestock. While we were meandering about staff were observed in the gardens selecting produce. It does not get any more farm fresh than that!

We returned to the dining room and were greeted by Vincent (again) and seated. Megalong dining is a set menu offering a variety of wine or other beverage pairing alternatives. The set menu changes according to what is in season and what is available from the farm. We discussed our observations with respect to the gardens, green houses, orchards and livestock on our walkabout as well as the focus on the farm fresh and other local ingredients with Vincent. On this evening he noted that this was a new menu - this was to be the first seating for this new menu. With the new menu in hand, wine pairing selected and their recommended cocktails arriving, the experience was set to begin.

Each course was plated fabulously and described passionately by our servers (primarily Vincent). All servers made a point of highlighting the ingredient sourcing and the preparation when presenting the courses - amazing. Vincent was equally enthusiastic with respect to the wine pairings - origin of the wine, features of the wine, and rationale for the pairing. One of the courses (charcuterie platter) was presented by the Executive Chef, Colin Barker, who proceeded to explain in detail the sourcing, the preparation process and his personal favourites.

Every course presented was exquisite with the quality of ingredients evident and they were consumed as passionately as they were presented. Were there favourites? Absolutely. The tartlet appetizers (juane flamme & macadamia); charcuterie board (off menu item); garden fresh purple radishes; ronde de nice; murray cod; wagu beef & wood oven cheesecake. Yes, darn near everything. The cheesecake was over the top - extremely rich with a mousse like consistency - incredible finish.

Everyone was absolutely fabulous at this dining room. The staff was busy but was always attentive and extremely accommodating. A special shout out / thank you to Vincent who was extremely patient with us and our many questions, and shared his passion for both the plates and the wine with us. Our discussions with Colin were even more revealing with respect to the history of the dining room (open less than one year) and the passion behind their mission. This was an incredible evening and one of those evenings which we will be talking about for years to come. Thank you to all.

We highly recommend...

Is there any other reason to drive down to the Megalong Valley on a dreary summer's day besides the fact the road wiggles and winds spectacularly through a fantastically lush rainforest? Yes, of course! But to eat at Megalong @ Lot 101.

At our arrival the care and presentation and dedication to the property is immediately evident. Step inside through the heavy dark wood swing door and attention to detail in decor affirms the experience here is likely to be without fault.

And it is.

I chose to have the meal matched with the alcohol free drinks. Not a second rate choice but actually an enlightenment. What a sublime extra to the taste sensations we were served. These drinks were a perfect match to the meal, perfect. Such thought and care to drinks with a meal I have never had. (I never drink alcohol so this was a new experience for me)

Each course was delivered with a confidence and finesse demonstrating expertise and professional knowledge of flavour, ingredients and technique, of a rare quality.

Each dish was flawless in its presentation, beautiful harmony of both flavour and visual appeal, along with use of less common ingredients or even a slight reconfiguring of well known flavours or recipes. The menu was an adventurous progression of dishes and ingredients conceived with aplomb.

Drive that windy road, thought the tall overhanging trees and magical bent tree ferns. Pop out in a beautiful valley, park up at the farm and settle comfortably inside for an amazing meal....

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Megalong Restaurant in the stunning Megalong Valley last night, and I can honestly say I’ve never had a culinary experience like it. Their paddock-to-plate philosophy isn’t new, but the scale and execution here are extraordinary. The menu was seasonal yet completely unpredictable. Every bite was absolutely delicious, and the pairings were perfectly matched.

The setting deep in the valley is pure magic. We dined as the sandstone cliffs changed colour with the sunset, surrounded by native bushland and rolling farmland. Breathtaking.

The service was world-class: attentive, thoughtful, and perfectly paced. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful. Warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the food and the story behind it. The pairings and cocktails were spot-on, creative, and beautifully balanced.

It’s an incredible credit to Executive Chef Colin Barker, who brings both creative brilliance and genuine warmth to the experience. A genuinely nice guy. What makes this place truly special is its connection to the land. The restaurant sits within a working farm where much of the produce is grown on site, and the rest is sourced from nearby producers. You can taste that authenticity and care in every dish.

Honestly, this is one of, if not the, best dining experience I’ve ever had. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates food crafted with vision,...

We recently celebrated our anniversary at Megalong at Lot 101 and I can honestly say it was a magical experience from start to finish. The rolling thunder and pelting rain did little to dampen our spirits, if anything, it helped prepare us for the full-on taste bud assault that was to come. The staff were exceptional, attentive without being overbearing, warm, genuinely enthusiastic about the food and farm, and clearly proud of the place. They guided us through the menu, answered our questions about where the ingredients came from, and helped us appreciate the beauty of the “farm to table” approach. Nearly all the vegetables, herbs, and fruit on the menu are grown organically on-site, and local meats and produce form the foundation of each course. Every dish we had was inventive, combining flavour, texture, and perfect plating. Talking to the maître d’ about the menu, he laughed and said the menu was as fluid as the rain outside, borne from the produce available on the day and the chef’s imagination. All in all, if you’re looking for an unforgettable meal where service, setting, and cooking align perfectly, Megalong at Lot 101 is absolutely the place. We went to mark our anniversary and left with memories we’ll treasure. Great location for that special occasion. P.S. I kinda stole the beautiful images from my wife’s Instagram account, please don’t tell her.

We had an excellent dinner experience at Megalong. The quality of their own-grown produce was extremely evident, and we thought the creativity, care, and passion was evident in everything they did. From the food, to the drinks, to the farm and building. We ordered both the alcoholic wine pairings for each course as well as the non-alcoholic mocktail pairings. We found the non-alcoholic pairings to be so creative, flavourful, interesting, and they paired extremely well with the food. We actually thought the non-alcoholic pairings were superior to the wine pairings. The food was fantastic and creative, and the dishes were well designed to showcase the quality of their ingredients. This is absolutely a quality over quantity restaurant, but we still left full and satisfied. An example is their decision to use lean flank meat for the beef course, instead of a marbled fatty cut you would typically expect for a high end restaurant, but we thought the lean cut really demonstrated the quality of their ingredients. We were also encouraged to walk around the farm to see everything growing, and the layout was very accommodating to see the different areas of the farm and for great views of Megalong valley. We would absolutely visit Megalong again, and we hope to make dining at Megalong an annual - if not seasonal - occasion for us.
