Well spoken of by the locals but having visited three times now, a year or so apart, our experience suggest it's overrated. There is limited choice in Culburra and The Little Snapper looks inviting but each time we have arrived we have been assigned a tiny table in the aisle ... perhaps we should have booked because it was going to be busy ... not. Such an assignment might be more about not being a local perhaps ... not sure but the welcome was perfunctionary giving us the feeling they were doing us a favour ... not a good start. That said, we arrived early in the evening 20 minutes into happy hour and ordered glasses of wine noting an extensive quality wine range but a restrictive by glass choice. Asked if we qualified for the happy hour price ... of course ... a whole $2 discount only to have the bill tallied at full price less than a hour later! The menu is very limited ... perhaps 5 or 6 mains to cover 1 meat 1 chicken 1 burger 1 fish 1 vegetarian with a Special on the chalkboard. The special 'Chicken Breast and Mango Salad' $26 but when described to us it was quoted as $29.90 ... mmm. We ordered the fish ... (ironically not Snapper ... probably seasonal) but Barramundi, which was presented in a salmon like slice in a small plate and gourmet sized ... sitting astride an equally petite pad of cabbage and mash ... at $29.90 ... But having been before we were aware vegies would be extra ... an equally restrictive range of sides ... essentially 1 green ... broccoli. As for the taste, it was fresh and well prepared and certainly left room for desserts ... but at $15 ... not this time. Service by the way was efficient, lacking a degree of connection ... and we were out within the hour ... Bottom line: great taste but not value nor the comfortable evening we had in mind. Hint: If you want to take test the water yourselves, book first and ask for a window table away from the door or risk facing the 'overflow' treatment. For us though its 'three...

Whilst organising a Jervis Bay trip, came across this highly rated restaurant online. We were prepared to drive half an hour for a great meal. Unfortunately, I found the ratings exceedingly generous and did not meet our expectations. Ordered the miso steak and mussels, both popular dishes on their regular menu. The steak is generously portioned however the quality of the meat is poor, we choose medium rare and it was cooked correctly with pink inside but the steak tasted overcooked. Possibly the steak wasn't defrosted enough. There was a blood clot in the steak (see picture). The way the meat is prepared is the sauce of your choosing (teriyaki or miso) is basted over the steak. The chips weren't crunchy 😭.

The mussel was a much nicer dish, however they served a dead mussel. We booked 1.5 weeks ahead and was seated in their outdoor section which was freezing, they didn't have any outdoor heating turned on. I would've appreciated a choice between indoor or outdoor. The man looking after our section was great. Perhaps our experience was a one off, but it was a super disappointing experience and the worst meal of our four day trip. (Check out Paperbark Camp, 5 pigs, Jervis Bay Club for 5 star food in Jervis Bay & Kangaroo Valley Bakehouse for pies and desserts in...

Chasing the perfect rockpool during a blue sky break in Sydney’s grey cloud summer, I found myself in Culburra. This sleepy surf-side locale is home to The Little Snapper. It’s an order-at-the-counter all day affair turning out the type of food you’d like to eat after spending time at the beach. Wiping the sea from my palate with a pine-lime Margarita ($15.50) was hampered by a very hectic salt rim. However, when taken through a straw, it was an enjoyable (and not over-sweet) twist on the classic. Supporting local producers, Jim Wild’s oysters ($29/dozen), are shucked too far ahead of time for much liquor, but tasty none-the-less. The triumph however is the battered flathead & chips ($17.50). While the fish portion was relatively small, it had a crisp batter cooked in clean oil, decent chips, excellent saucing (try the BBQ sauce) and a side salad that didn’t eat like an after-thought even on a public holiday (when a 10% surcharge was added to the bill). We washed it down with another local guy, Jervis Bay Brewing Co.’s Cow & Calf Tropical Pale Ale ($9), a fruity (think: peach and hints of orange citrus), hoppy quaffer. The young floor team are friendly and answered questions, like when did the fish come in (yesterday), with refreshing honesty.

Very lovely atmosphere. Clean and group friendly. The food was spot on for size and value. Definitely had a Korean-infused influence which was quite nice. It didn't over power it. Ordered the lunch special. The Korean Fried Chicken was drenched in mayo + sauce. As one of the children pointed out- the sizing of the chicken pieces was more like a popcorn chicken. Sauce on the side would have been nice instead of drizzled all over. Even though we didn't want the extra salad, some green sitting on the side would have made it look prettier to eat. We were short on some utensils so service has been marked down. Fish and chips was a very generous sizing. Not too sure if the fish was fresh. Average good food but good atmosphere and reasonable service. Accepts Amex credit card so bonus points!
