My husband and I finally made it to the Great Northern Hotel in Teralba for a little lunch date before school pick-up, and wow, I’m so glad we did! This place has that classic old-school pub feel 🥰. The outdoor area is stunning. Spacious, inviting, and perfect for kids (and I was told it’s soon getting a playground too 🙌🏼). Everything was clean and tidy, inside and out, and the menu was awesome, and hard to make a decision! (Wish I took a pic) Our meals were HUGE and absolutely delicious! I had the prawn pizza 😍 and my husband had the schnitty with bacon and avo topper. Everything was hot and fresh and full of flavour! I had a glass of Shiraz, he had a Stone & Wood, all up $75. The quality of the food and the size of the meals was well worth it.👌🏼 But honestly, the best thing was the service from the lovely ladies there today. Genuinely happy and friendly people. ☺️ We usually default to Harrigan’s out of convenience, but it often leaves us underwhelmed with food and service. This gem of a pub is right up there with Holmesy Pub, another one of our faves! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10, would recommend!

Since moving to Teralba a couple of years ago, we've seen an incredible transformation of our local pub – the Great Northo. To be honest, before the new owners took over, it was a bit of a dive. Now, it's easily one of the best pubs to dine at in the Newcastle / Lake Macquarie area. Huge compliments to the chef! The recent renovations have completely lifted the vibe of the place. While we’re not into drinking, we do enjoy dining out occasionally, and The Great Northo is always welcoming – even for families with kids, which is a big plus. We also regularly grab takeaway pizzas, and they’ve quickly become our favourites. The BBQ Chicken & Bacon and the Truffle Mushroom are standouts – absolutely delicious. Here's a photo of the pizzas (BBQ chicken & bacon and a prawn special), though the pictures don't do them justice. They're far better than anything you’d get from the big chains or any other pub pizza we’ve had for that matter.

The renovation is awesome!! Such a change in the beer garden, even little baskets with sunscreen and mosquito repellent. There are games and all sorts to do out the back and heaters for winter. The disappointment was that the kitchen was closed because they had to get a fan out in, it had been closed all week you think it could have been done before the weekend at least. I didn't see a sign out front so had already drank half a beer before I found out then had to drive to Boolaroo right after drinking a schooner to go to the commercial. I would have preferred the bar to have said something so I didn't have to do that.

I can't call The Great Northern Hotel in Teralba my local due to living 45 minutes away, but it has definitely now become a fabourie. You see, my usual haunt won best schnitzel in the Hunter - but after our visit to The Great Northern Hotel, I have to wonder if the judges simply missed this gem.

We came in as a family of four and ordered three schnitzels between us. We didn't order entrees and still couldn't finish the plates. The portion sizes were genuinely jaw-dropping, and the flavour? Absolutely spot on. Every bite was balanced, crispy, and satisfying. The topper range was creative and generous, and the chips were hands down some of the best I’ve had in years.

We ended up staying for trivia, and the good vibes just kept coming. The staff handed out extra Easter eggs to my daughters just to make them smile. That kind of unprompted kindness is rare and unforgettable.

When the weather turned bad (our family gathering of 15 people) were quickly accommodated to relocate inside without a fuss.

Every interaction with the team was joyful. The kind of service that makes you feel like you're exactly where you're meant to be. Even the other patrons were respectful and easygoing, which speaks volumes about the venue’s vibe.

Honestly, this place is a solid 11 out of 10. It’s rare that a venue gets every part of the experience right. From food to atmosphere to staff, The Great Northern nails it. An easy five...

OMG 😁😁😁 ... This place is THE BEST ... It's an old pub , so clean and freshly maintained its like I went back in time too whenever it first opened its doors ... The owner is not only hands on , friendly and an all round top bloke , the pride he takes in keeping this place impeccably clean and smelling fresh is 2nd to NONE 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 .. Every single member of staff I met was not only friendly , helpful and enthusiastic , they were also kind and understanding not to mention presented extremely well . The beer was great , the atmosphere I'm missing and the FOOD 🤤🤤🤤 , I feel like driving the 2 hours back there just to try EVERY dish ... i will return , this is 💯 certain and it will be so much sooner than it should be ... next trip to Byron and I'm going out of my way to get back here.. I even asked if they had rooms LOL 😁😁😁 .. Kindly and Sincerely a huge THANKYOU to all the staff and the owner and to you , THE GREAT NORTHERN HOTEL , you might just be the G.O.A.T ...See you all SOON...
