We stayed at this hotel during the Hunter Valley SteamFest of 2018, and we wouldn't say it was the best we have stayed in however it was good enough for the 3 nights I stayed. We stayed in Room 1A. Pros: -Comfortable and spacious room with TV, Air conditioning and a wardrobe -Easy 10 minute walk to Maitland Train Station -Restaurant downstairs -Within close range of public parking and local shops -Helpful and friendly staff -Really fast free 5G Wifi Cons: -Ironing facilities didn't work -Lack of soundproofing, making a very noisy night for when live music is downstairs -No elevator and proper check in/out area -Located on a partially one way street (the street layout is a little odd) -Flags outside the window (during windy conditions they made a racket) -Shared bathroom showers
Further Details: The room was beautifully presented and comfortable as well as spacious, it was located near a public car park, which made parking easy and convenient. The hotel is also located near to shops which make any shopping easy. The staff were very polite and helpful during our stay.
The restaurant downstairs served amazing food which was a bit pricy, but totally worth it when the size of the food was seen. If you are staying for SteamFest, I would recommend this hotel as it is only a 10 minute walk to Maitland Station, which of course is the centre of the action. The hotel provided really fast and free 5G Wifi internet which made going online amazingly fast and easy. I would like to thank the hotel for providing this free.
Even though the hotel was conveniently located and had a restaurant, there were a few problems. When we arrived after our 175km journey from Sydney, our clothes were creased, we decided to try out the iron, however when plugged into one of our room wall outlets, it worked for about 10 seconds and then turned off, overloading the power for our room, meaning that only the air conditioning and lights worked. We acknowledged that this was partly our fault, however the hotel is also at fault for providing faulty facilities and not placing any warning out.
We knew that live music would be playing on 2 of the nights we were staying, unfortunately whilst the patrons downstairs were (somehow???) enjoying the music, which I found not only irritating but awful, we were suffering trying to get to sleep as the music continued until half past midnight. I would consider staying again if soundproofing was installed to lack any music getting through.
A few other minor, not as important notes are that the hotel lacks a proper check in/out area, as this is done at the bar, as well as lacking an elevator however I can understand this due to old nature of the hotel. Being located on a partially one way street is something the hotel can't really avoid as this was most likely the council's choice, however if you wish to head west in your car, you can only turn left out of the carpark, making it difficult to head west.
Whilst staying at Maitland, one of it's notorious storms came through with heavy winds and rain, fortunately this happened in the afternoon making the sounds of the flags blowing in the wind quite loud, luckily the storm passed out just before 7pm. The removal of flags may be necessary to stop lots of noise.
The shared bathrooms issue was acknowledged when we booked in March, the toilets and basin was clean, however in the showers there was a limited changing area in the cubicle, with the shower taking up most of the space.
In all I give the hotel 3 stars, if the hotel fixed some of the problems then it would be a great place to stay again. Through all the cons, the friendly staff, the restaurant, the convenient location and the super fast Wifi internet adds up to make the hotel a pretty good place.
Please consider the above points both positive and negative before considering booking a stay at this hotel. All details contained within this review were true at the...
Read moreWould love to talk to the owner I paid $350 for 3 nights and expect it be worth the price I paid for, I get the whole you get what you pay for just that I have stayed at better for that price with the same 3 nights stay. I checked in early with my son but was spoken to really rudely a few times in person and over the phone. No one helped me work out how to leave the motel so I had to find out myself as I was using the pub entrance. We got offered room 8 which we were welcome to a leaky tap and the door had about 5 holes (which later after using the toilet they just stuck a few little chux pieces in the holes, the door wouldn’t lock so we got upgraded to room 1a which had a few problems itself (the rack on the wall was coming off, no fly screens in the windows, drawer knob was off and only had a screw in place, a bit of cupboard door frame was coming off exposing nails, the balcony door was unlocked no way to lock it, the main door had one hole in it and the bottom of the door had a gap) I expected a room with a bathroom but as advised but it didn’t, kitchen area was okay but was confused, first shower we had it had no hot water, it was okay but water got everywhere, not enough hooks to place towels. We had one other guest open our door with a keycard which was very unsettling at 9pm We came back from an outing to the main door unlocked, key card didn’t work 2 times so had to get replacement ones. Loud music which wasn’t advertised when I booked it when on for a few hours as well as loud talkers. When asked when the restaurant was open they said 2:30 which was around the time I asked so me and my very hungry son had to find another place to eat. When going to the bathroom near the stairs it wouldn’t flush properly. Also like to add this place has stairs no elevator. I picked this place thinking it was perfect for my autistic son and I stay at while we were in town it wasn’t. I don’t do confrontation which is why I didn’t speak up at the time as well as my son doesn’t do well with yelling and he was always with me. I had to video chat my son on his iPad anytime I left the room to use the bathroom as I didn’t feel safe enough to leave him unattended. Not safe for kids at all. Felt very unease and could...
Read moreFirst please note this motel is right above the Imperial Irish Pub, and there will be live music and drunk customers downstairs during the weekend. If you are a deep sleeper or like to hangout in the pub then this place is right for you; if you are looking for a quiet place to relax, then better choose another place.
Overall, I love this place (even I didn’t sleep very well Friday and Saturday night) and it’s decent for the price. I chose this motel for my son’s basketball tournament in Maitland, and it’s the only place available in Maitland when the game roster releases. First this place only changes half or even 1/3 of the price comparing to other motels and hotels in that area. The room type is a single room with shared bathroom and toilet. The building and facilities are a bit old but everything inside is tidy and clean! Considering we only use this place for resting and sleeping, I am happy with everything offering here, for example, it comes with light complementary breakfast (toast, milk, cereal, juice, and yogurt), there is microwave and fridge in the kitchen to use, and large dinning area to use, simple clean up everything when you are done eating. The cleaning lady is quiet and doesn’t like to chat, but she gets the bathroom cleaned everyday.
There are plenty of restaurants just around the corner, and WWs supermarket is about two blocks away. Most importantly, the Murray River is right behind the motel, and you could have a nice walk along the river side in a sweet sunny afternoon/evening!
I really love this place and will stay here again if ever visit...
