Roadhaven Cafe — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

1:45am in the morning on saturday. I didn't want a servo-pie, sandwich or drive-thru from a chain. I wanted a proper hot meal and it was cold outside, nothing open close by, so I trekked there.

I pulled in after some travel and wasn't sure if the truck stop / cafe was open but I tried my luck.

Old mate was cleaning the grill but the fryers were running.

Schnitty, chips and gravy. Missing the side salad since I still had to drive 15-20 mins home and didn't bother with it.

Absolute legend, I can see why it's a popular truck stop. Asked me about my gravy on the side or on top and salt preference.

This guy made my night by just knocking me up some mad food while we have busy cleaning.

Life saver, treated me as good as any trucker or repeat customer. Apologised for cleaning the grill / lack of menu options for ordering at that moment.

But I was after a hot cooked comfort meal. Got it, snacked on the chips on the drive before I tucked into the rest of it before crashing out.

Made sure to leave a comment this morning because they surpassed my expectations of availability and service at that...

Couldn't even say sorry. I havent been to this business in years. I ordered a toasted ham and cheese on Turkish. Sandwich was fine, until my second last mouthfull. I got a shard of hard plastic jammed in my gum. I went to the lady at the register and asked to speak to her away from the other customers. She was lovely and apologised and offered me a refund. She went and told another lady who came out and told me that "they don't have anything there like that" and "what did I want" I told her that I just wanted her to know as I had hurt my gum. She couldn't even say sorry and just again told me "we have nothing here like that" As I walked out, I caught the other lady's attention and said to her that "she couldn't even say sorry". She apologised again. And I left, without a refund. Come on people, I didnt yell or scream or draw attention to myself. I also don't know where the shard of plastic came from. I do know that my gum is bleeding because of your food. Next time, try being sympathetic and not...

Ordered coffee and 2 breakfast wraps to eat in. Within 1 minute woman came over with wraps... obviously from the buy and go warmer. Mine was 5/10 and should have returned it. My partners showed no sign of egg or cheese just bacon. She returned it and was replaced with cooked to order 10/10 the way it should be.

After 15 min and no coffee I went to the counter and saw the 2 staff talking while 1 half focused on making coffee. I asked if our coffees were nearly ready with a response of "we've been busy" I responded if you put a much effort in making your coffees as you do talking to each other you'd be able to do your job faster ... only to get dirty looks and rolled eyes 🙄 The coffee was disgusting, no flavour, a total waste of $25 all up.

Won't be back and wish I'd google reviewed...
