Valentine Bowling Club — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

We hosted our wedding reception at Valentine Bowling Club over the weekend. Absolutely could not complain about the presentation of the functions room and the view is amazing. But what we can complain about is the food, the lack of communication from the functions manager, the poor communication from the CEO and the service received from bar manager on duty.

We chose the cocktail package for the canapés to which we received rock hard and ice cold cheese burgers? When asked for a replacement we received no response. And after speaking with Geoff, it appears there was no problem with any of the food and all was consumed.

Drinks package was to finish at 930 although we were meant to be able to buy drinks until 10:30. We have since found out the bar was closed at 930 because we were too intoxicated. Which was not the case at all. We were told we could wait in the bar downstairs until our taxi arrived. 10:10pm came and we were still waiting on a taxi and the manager on duty told us to leave the premises Because he had to close the doors and go home and that if we didn’t want to wait on a taxi we should have caught the last courtesy bus home at 9:30. We definitely would have done that if I knew we were going to get kicked out of the function room which was meant to finish at 10:30pm! For the amount of money we spent on this, we would not recommend having a wedding...

An absolute wonderful venue with views of the lake and moored yachts as you enter the function room. And that's just the beginning! We found our required number of large circular tables presented in a just the perfect configuration and beautifully set. The very pleasant function Manageress, Jessica, greeted my wife and I as we arrived for our Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration. Jessica introduced her team members and made sure all was to our satisfaction. Our delicious three course meal was served (And it was Delicious!!) at the pre planned times. Of course I took credit when our guests made so many positive comments ref the total function experience!! But truly if you are looking for magnificent venue that has a professional, experienced Manageress supported by a friendly team of professionals then look no further. Had lunch here wednesday 23/11/23 and our meals were very ordinary and expensive. My wife had Fish and Chips $24.00 which came with salad. She started to feel ill shortly afterwards and was unwell on the way home. I had the pot pie $20.00 with chips but no salad was included. Salad was a further $3.00. The pie was tiny, very ordinary, little flavour and comprised mostly mash potato. More starch when you've already got chips as a side. I also felt unwell after we got home Chips were crispy but only warm. Others had schnitzel which looked pre- cooked and very dark brown so had probably been held in a warming draw.
