Big Fig Bistro — Restaurant in Northern Territory

*Edit: I have minused a star since my last visit as I was incredibly disappointed with the portion size of the barramundi. I literally got 3 tiny thin fingers of fish and a wee dollop of mash and a few random bits of vege (I swapped out from the chips and salad) for $34!!!??? Absolute rip off. My mates pasta dish was a really small portion aswell. Very disappointed.

And the music was absolutely terrible! It was the worst tacky 90's/early 2000's teen romance hits.... so bad! 🙈🤣

Original review: One of the nicest spots in Katherine with a beautiful atmosphere among the gardens and fig tree.

The food was good, especially the ribs. However, a very small and uncreative menu. It's the same standard pub food as everywhere else. So for that reason, I wouldn't be back often

The coloured lights hanging string lights were a bit tacky and look like they've been there since the 90's. Modern warm white lights would look absolutely stunning though

The food can be quite good, depending on what you get. The lamb was amazing, the meat fell off the bone, so tender. The chips are freshly cooked and the salad is also good. The BBQ ribs are ok. Best to come early as they close the kitchen quite early and the food is limited. Strangely they don't have steak! The prices are ok, not cheap but not expensive considering their portion.

Best ambiance & food in Katherine. For some reason all the restaurants in Katherine seem to have very average food and rough country atmospheres reminiscent of that old dark pub with the sticky carpet and expletive spouting, high víz wearing patrons spitting on the floor. We spent days here and checked out every place in town. I’m a chicken Parma fan and I had one of the worst in years at one of the country clubs. The Parma at this place was a 7.5 (good).
