McKay's Oyster at Pambula Visited on 11/3/2021 The wholesale oyster place we meant to buy from was closed due to some possible contamination. We discovered this place by chance. It is like a big metal barn, with ample parking. It does not have very high tech machines, but plenty of plastic buckets. It costs $5 more per dozen to open the oyster. I prefer to do it myself, not so much about the money, but for peace of mind. The large ones are more meaty, plump and buttery. For the same price, the oysters from Woolworths are much smaller.

No frills venue - just a run-down tin-shed. Cash only. One old man running the place - shucking the oysters, serving the customers, collecting the cash etc. Throw your own garbage into a bin that’s provided - the lid was covered in dirt and unwashed. $27.50 per dozen large oysters. $25 per dozen medium oysters. We paid for 2 dozens of the large oysters, but there were a couple of medium sized ones thrown in. However the oysters were fabulous. Very fresh and tasted great. The saltiness of the oysters really hit the spot.

Cash only! Such a random location however we exclusively get our unopened oysters from here. We find them both creamy and so delicious. You are 100% buying out of a factory/warehouse production and they only take cash. They have recently set up some chairs for you to sit outside and have started providing opened oysters. However, if you learn how to shock your oysters, they lost about a week and they have a lot more value for money. If you can shuck them yourself

Merimbula is an oyster lovers paradise. With oyster leases in the clearest, cleanest waters I've ever seen in Merimbula Lake, McKay's Sydney Rock oysters were as excellent as expected. I even managed to persuade a couple of avowed non oyster eaters to try some. Run from a shed on the main road to Pambula just past the golf course this is how an oyster business should be. When we arrived there 4 different sizes either shucked on site or unshucked at your preference. A short lesson in oyster lifespan and sizing was provided, 3 dozen bought and we returned the next...

My wife and I were looking for a place to buy oysters from on the NSW south coast on our drive home to Melbourne. Stopped on a bit of a whim at McKays and had a chat. Bought 3 dozen unopened oysters for about $25, we had no idea that if we kept them at room temp and unopened they'd keep for a week or so. Chucked them in the laundry sink when we got home to Melbourne and shucked and ate half a dozen each for a few nights. Best oysters we've had. Don't expect high end facilities and service from McKays, just good, honest advice and a quality product! Highly...

Yes, our oysters were lovely. We bought them unshucked, and enjoyed them on our holiday. HOWEVER, the customer service experienced was shameful. If I could put minus stars, I would. In no way does a tasty oyster make being treated this poorly worthwhile, we will go elsewhere next time. The man behind the counter was rude, grumpy and refused to provide any advice regarding shucking. I don’t understand why you would advertise sales to the public, if you clearly hate dealing with people. It’s also cash only, so that never sits well, as someone who pays...
