Merimbula is an oyster lovers paradise. With oyster leases in the clearest, cleanest waters I've ever seen in Merimbula Lake, McKay's Sydney Rock oysters were as excellent as expected. My wife and I were looking for a place to buy oysters from on the NSW south coast on our drive home to Melbourne. Stopped on a bit of a whim at McKays and had a chat. Bought 3 dozen unopened oysters for about $25, we had no idea that if we kept them at room temp and unopened they'd keep for a week or so. Chucked them in the laundry sink when we got home to Melbourne and shucked and ate half a dozen each for a few nights. Best oysters we've had. Yes, our oysters were lovely. We bought them unshucked, and enjoyed them on our holiday. HOWEVER, the customer service experienced was shameful. If I could put minus stars, I would. In no way does a tasty oyster make being treated this poorly worthwhile, we will go elsewhere next time. The man behind the counter was rude, grumpy and refused to provide any advice regarding shucking.
