Walked up to CK's with my fiancé and our baby. Ordered $15 worth of chips with chicken salt. We sat and waited for the order and so watched what was happening in the store. When our chips were served, one of the crew sprayed the chips with vinegar. We saw this and when handed the chips, I quietly said that I had seen that the chips had been sprayed with vinegar and that we didn't ask for vinegar. The team member that took our order then spoke with the person handing our food to us and said adamantly that I had said yes to wanting vinegar. We never have vinegar on our chips. The next thing that happened appalled me. We saw the team member take the already cooked chips out the back with a basket and then quickly refry the chips, served them and tried to hand them over. This may have been okay if there was some sort of consultation to see if we were okay with this, but we were not, we just watched it all unfold. Then when I raised the issue that we had witnessed what they had done, another team member said that this was common practice and refrying would get rid of the vinegar. I said I was not happy about this and that was when the manager stepped in and offered to re-cook the chips which we happily accepted. These chips were cooked in record time (about 3 minutes). The manager said that it was a new batch that was cooked and the old ones are out the back. I thanked him and we walked home. When we opened the package at home we were met with chips that did not look freshly cooked and then when we ate them, they still had the taste of vinegar on the inside. We feel as if our local fish and chip shop has treated us with a complete lack of empathy from being told that I was wrong in what I had communicated regarding what we wanted on the chips, to having the chips cooked several times and being handed the same package after waiting all the time we did. We have just moved to the area and tried the chips 2 weeks ago. We loved them and had made the commitment to go up at least once a fortnight to get them with whatever dinner we were having. Unfortunately this experience has now burnt that bridge and we will not...
Read moreWe tried CK's about a month ago and it wasn't what it used to be. I soon found out that it was under new management. Fast forward to last night and after what we were served up we will not be returning.
Was told at the time of ordering that it would be ready in 15 minutes which I thought was a stretch given the size of the order. I waited some 45 minutes for my order to be completed. Whilst I was waiting the rest of my order sat in a box on the bench not in the bain-marie keeping warm.
By the time I got home I was missing a third of what I ordered and when I called them they told me it was being wrapped up now. I got back to the store and was told I would need to wait a further 15 minutes. By this stage it had been and hour and 15 minutes since they said my order would be ready. I requested a refund for what was missing.
To add to this experience when I finally sat down to eat, the frilled fish was inedible due to the weird spicy lemon / chilli pepper that excessively coated it and the fact it needed to...
Read moreHadn't been in here for a long time but it's really gone down hill under the new management.
The shop itself has pretty much been stripped bare and even though the old menus are still on the wall, half of the items that used to make it unique, like the Scottish sausage and British style sides, are no longer available.
We got 1 fish and chips and a squid rings to share but everything was soggy and the fish was actually quite gooey and unpleasant, so we threw it away.
Won't be going back. Such a shame.
Seems you can't reply to the owners comments, in response... I sat in your shop for 25 minutes waiting for our order so I know how few orders were being made. If you think that is busy, clearly you've never ran a successful business. And as to your offer, no thankyou. The food was revolting, I wouldn't want to...
