Ordered a toasted croissant and focaccia that was displayed and already made. I wasn’t told it would take 30 minutes to heat up what’s already made and the explanation I was given was “we’re not a bakery and there are others who ordered before you”. I was almost in tears as I could not believe it as I saw people who came later than me already having their food. Even if that was not the case, they could have been upfront about it and told me they’re too busy and toasting a sandwich would take 30 minutes so I would have a choice. We still had 4 hours travel ahead of us and I only asked for a quick stop to grab a sandwich so this response to my anxiety was disappointing.😢 I would have let it go if there was at least a sincere apology and honest explanation.

This steak pie was perfect! Crispy golden brown crust and a delicious stuffing makes your mouth water and is neither too salty or bland. It was surprisingly easy to cut into compared to other pies due to its thinner bottom and sides.. It has a puffy appearance almost like a pillow and is filled to the brim with their perfectly cooked beef. The location of the cafe, near the border of SA and VIC, in a quiet town, makes it a great place for adventurous eaters and travellers to have lunch and a well deserved break from the road! Definitely must try this!!!!

Have been here quite a few times, yes you can wait a bit for your food but it is well worth the wait. Today we came here for my birthday lunch as the pies here are to die for. Unfortunately they were all sold out so I gave the pumpkin feta tart a go , this has now caused a problem as my next trip I won't be able to decide between the tart and pies. The pumpkin tart has a lovely hint of cumin and the side salad is as fresh as it gets. The staff are freindly but very busy. Keep up the good work guys and those that want a quick meal grab a deli pie.

In Penola to perform at the Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival and asked locals where we should go for brunch. Everyone said the Vintage Cafe and now we know why! My wife had the smashed avoid and I had the Atlantic Benny (asked for an extra egg which unlike other cafes was not a problem). I consider myself as an unofficial expert on eggs benedict and what I are today is up on the leader board with others I have had around Australia. Cafe was busy and yet our order was brought out in acceptable time. Combined with coffees and we would give more than 5 stars if we could. Lovely staff, service, atmosphere and delicious meals!

Footnote: We returned for breakfast before heading home and our first experience wasn't a fluke! My wife had the pancakes with strawberries this time and I had Altlantic Benny (with an extra egg!) again which was cooked to perfection. Thanks for a hearty breakfast and we will definitely make this our 'go to' place for breakfast each time we are in Penola (6...

did not maintain hygiene within the Cafe, kept dirty dishes left on tables after half an hour of the customer's leaving, waited over half an hour for specials meals, which should be the easiest to prepare, at this time, my family and I were the only customers in, others come in and been served and left with their food, poorly made drinks, latte was a flat white, and the hot chocolate could not be moved without excessive spillage. masks were not worn behind the cooking counter and in the kitchen. overall, dishes have not been cleaned to standard Cafe etiquette, the latte glass had gunk under the handle and rim. extremely poor service. do not recommend

edit: the meals were not what we asked for, a caesar salad, gluten free was ordered, and it has glutenous croutons. cross contamination at its finest. the creme of cauliflower soup, is not home made, it's from a shop...
