My Wife and I asked google for the best Chinese Restaurant while we are staying in port macquarie, people gave lotus at lighthouse 4 1/2 stars out of five stating that the food was the best Chinese food they had tasted so we headed over for lunch on Sunday 19th August, the restaurant was empty & there is a saying, if there are a lot of people dining in the restaurant it must be a good one so with it being empty we started having doubts about the reviews. I ordered beef combination, sizzling garlic king prawns & special fried rice, the beef combination only consisted of braised beef, Chinese spinach, 2 half pieces of sliced carrot and 2 small broccoli floriets & some pieces of cauliflower the size of your little fingernail, where we are from beef combinations contains braised beef, chicken, pork and some seafood, the special fried rice was lacking in some ingredients, there was only a small amount of chicken, the egg was two small pieces of egg. Don't believe the good reviews people are giving this restaurant because the next time we visit Port Macquarie we won't be dining at Lotus on Lighthouse again, we have dined at better Chinese restaurants in port macquarie, we just wanted to try another restaurant as we dine at a different Chinese restaurant whenever we are in Port. Give...
Read moreWent here after reading all the reviews on here and it seems to me that most are way off base.
The stairs are normal stairs, railings on both sides and easy to climb for most everyone (although I can understand Grandma having a little trouble, but it must be worth it if she is making the effort)
The food and wine are very reasonably priced. We paid $40 for one of their "mid ranged" Chardonnays, pretty standard for a licensed restaurant in my opinion. Most mains on the menu average around $20 and given the quality of the food, definitely worth it.
We never felt rushed through and found all the staff to be very pleasant and accommodating.
The one thing I do agree with most reviewers is the 5 star rating, every dish we had was delicious, fresh, and perfectly cooked. Clearly a favorite with the locals I will definitely be trying to stop in again the next time we're in...
Read moreLotus is certainly not what it used to be. To your staff member who is an older lady with glasses, her rudeness is the disappointing reason we will not be returning. As one of our favourite restaurants to visit when back in Port we were bitterly disappointed last night. 1 we were made feel we were an inconvenience as we didn't have a booking. Despite not 1 other person in the restaurant. 2 mumbled at under her breath towards us and other staff and tone was the rudest lack of service we have ever received. The only saviour was your lovely waitress with long ponytail that tried to salvage us staying for dinner and seated us. But your older staff member with glasses had already soured our evening and we left without eating and...
