restaurants overlooking the south-west corner of the Indian ocean of wa are hard to find and the views and waves did not disappoint. however, the food really let this place down. the simple menu wasn't overly cluttered so one would think what was on offer would be of a good standard, at least. sadly not! like other reviews mention, the advertised 'snapper' was a soggy piece of flesh that probably came from the last shark, caught after biting off a surfer's leg. whilst the batter was crunchy, the amount of heavy oil on the portion had to be wringed with a tissue before consumption. the smattering of salad, which accompanied the fish and factory-bought chips, was dismal. an 'out of the plastic bag' affair with a couple of thinly sliced onion rings. the sauce was okay. the 'home-made' carrot cake was dry and dense and showed neither of the usual traits (moisture and carrot) of this type of gateau. it was obviously produced by someone with unbalanced and sub-standard cooking skills. nothing is easier than making a carrot cake!! there was no thick lathering of cream and the overly large 'sprinkling' of kernels, sultanas and walnuts on the top made the cake look more like polly's feed. my friend was rather surprised when he saw i had hardly touched the cake as i'm big on sweets. there wasn't a varied menu choice so if you didn't like the beef and fish selection of items there wasn't much else to ponder. the choice wasn't dissimilar to an old coast cafe in cottesloe we used to visit in the early 80s - nor were the visuals. this place really needs a creative touch and someone with a bit of flair to zoosh up the menu. like i see others have written, i found it a disgrace (embarrassing?) watching international tourists receive their dishes as i was trying to eat mine, because it's far from the usual standard offered in this town. it's not what i, as a long term resident, or margaret river, represents. the two stars given was a bit of a stretch but, basically, awarded for the ambience/views. it would help if the outside seating were arranged so other guests didn't move our chairs (and us!) each time they passed.... and having a disliked 1960s rock and roll song increased in volume, suddenly, didn't help the...

Went up to get a quick bite to eat on New Year’s Day at lunch. Many items not available on menu due to no deliveries (understandable) so had to go to the counter to order and had to take my dog. As I walked back to my table, a staff member (owner apparently) told me in a highly aggressive manner that what was I thinking and I shouldn’t bring a dog inside as it was a restaurant (it’s just a cafe). I said I wasn’t aware assuming I had stupidly missed a sign (there was no sign). Ironically I pointed out to her that there happened to be someone else with a dog inside at the same time so it was clearly not common knowledge that dogs weren’t allowed at the counter. I was so shocked at her attitude that I left my dog outside and went to the counter to cancel the order. The same staff member then accused me of leaving my dog unattended (I was by myself, and had nobody to leave the dog with) and then incredibly doubled down and told me to F-off and to never come back (actual words… seriously). A dozen or so patrons witnessed the exchange and were completely shocked. I was so unsettled that I decided to leave my money and go. Credit to the two younger staff members who followed me into the parking lot, bringing my refund and apologising for the behaviour of their colleague. Can’t comment on the food. Just do not bring your dog… and hope that the owner is not there. The rest of the staff appear nice, setting is cool and food is...

Booked a table for 4 today Sunday 27th November 2022 for 6.30pm for dinner and sunset. Met some nice staff and had coffee in the morning confirming the pm booking and checking out the menu. We were really looking forward to the evening and sunset. Turned up at 6.25pm and the most loud, untuneful band were trying to play what was not music. Queued to meet the woman at the counter who not only did not know or acknowledge our booking for 4 people but was the most inadequate unreceptive rude person we had ever met at a cafe, restaraunt or shop. While being totally unhelpful and in a daze she floundered around while an ever lengthening queue of people collected behind us. In the end we left. A very bad experience to spoil our last evening and hope to see the sunset. The band was 0 stars Service 0 stars never got to taste the food. So busy they did not care as obviously the crowd kept the business...

DISAPPOINTMENT PLUS. Eat at Margaret River township before coming down here to look for food. Don't expect any more that the casual appearance and atmosphere that this place projects. The best thing about this place was the Irish lass serving customers and the northern carpark fence made of surfboards. The red wine was drinkable with ice in it. The fish and chips was disappointing and I couldn't finish the meal. The fish ??? Listed on the menu as Bronze Whaler Shark was battered and tasteless. In a seaside community with a famous reputation I was not impressed and would have liked a choice of another type of fish. The menu should read 'battered shark and chips'. My wife's chicken burger came out with the crumbed chicken so overcooked and dark it was just short of burnt. The intro on the Web site says 'posh pub food'. What a joke and insult to us Aussies and tourists.

Sea Garden Cafe, Prevally, Western Australia: Haunt of serious surfers and family vacationeers, Sea Garden Cafe is a breakpoint kickback cafe affording a distant view of the blue sea. Surfboards line the side in case you forget surfers are who they love to serve. Food is really good - we had kid’s Margherita pizza which was big enough to feed an adult and fish tacos turned really messy. Anything with beer-battered fish is popular and a must-chow. So busy was the cafe, we endured a 45 min wait. Feed on the blue view while you wait for your delayed feed. #eatstylishtravelstylish

We came across this gem for a late lunch after visiting Prevelly Beach. Firstly it's got a great view of the ocean even though its not exactly that close to the beach. The staff are so friendly and chatty especially Rob who served us was so courteous and helpful. This cafe is such layed back place perfect for just sitting on their terrace, great view and enjoying a drink or food from a good menu. The fresh fish taco (barra) was delicious, one of the best I've had by far. Will definitely return when we're visiting these parts.
