Avenue Cafe Mackay — Restaurant in Queensland

A note of caution. Yesterday I had lunch with friends here. My omelette with extra mushrooms, and topped with a tomato salsa, (also very nice) was good, as the food here usually is. I’d almost finished it when I discovered I had a decent sized (2cm square approx) piece of glass in my mouth. The mushrooms were whole and therefore I’d bitten down on that glass. Didn’t break luckily! It could just as easily gone partway down with the food otherwise. I did not finish the rest of the meal. I took the piece of glass and advised staff. I did receive an apology with the words “I don’t even know where that would have come from”. These things happen I know, and I did decline a refund or replacement meal, but did accept the offer of another coffee. That never arrived. I did ask for the owner to call me, left my name and phone number. That didn’t happen either. My meal arrived well after my two friends meals and after two tables who arrived after us were served, which in hindsight did make me wonder, did something happen? My friends’ meals were different and they fine and delicious as always. My main concern is whether the staff did follow up on this at all and are making sure whatever caused glass to actually be cooked into a meal, is fixed? That, I think is important. I do know I’m...

This cafe is excellent. Clear and spacious cafe, full of light and fresh breeze flowing through. Comfortable seating and spread out so you don’t feel squished while eating. An excellent variety on the menu to choose from, something for all tastes and dietary needs. Kids friendly, high chairs were clean and easily accessible. The cafe was neat and tidy, and kept very clean. The only thing that stops me from giving this lovely cafe was the average customer service. The first staff member was abrupt when seating us, the second staff member wasn’t happy for me to order from the lunch menu even though it was 40 minutes past the time stated on the menu that you could order it from. She ended up checking with the chef and it was ok for me to order. I hope this feedback helps this wonderful cafe. I look forward to...

Breakfast at The Avenue (by NE Foods) with 10 of my work colleagues was sensational. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was very casual and the staff were polite and efficient yet friendly. The variety of food on the menu catered for everyone's tastes. The service for our table was reasonable, (except for one wrong order) considering our diverse menu choices.The quality was high, the quantity even higher and prices were very equitable. I ordered scrambled eggs with bacon, mushrooms and sourdough toast plus a pot of Earl Grey tea, all for $19.00...😋 All who ordered it commented on the quantity of bacon with their breakfast.
