I had a function booked there and then received an email stating that my function had been cancelled. Apparently a lot of other functions had been cancelled as well. When I went into the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron to enquire, I was advised that the bar and restaurant were closed down. I got a long winded story from the Vice Commodore that he was going broke and that the people who had leased the bar and restaurant had completely rippped him off. I was also advised that his rent had increased 300% by his landlord. He also told me that the price I had paid for the venue was too low. I replied to the Vice Commodore that his relationship with his landlord had nothing to do with me and that I had not been the one who set the venue price hire. I offered to provide food vans, pay for security and bar staff, but Stephen wasn’t prepared to negotiate. I had told him that I had people flying in from other parts of the country, but he didn’t care. I have since seen that the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron are advertising functions. I will never recommend this venue to anyone or hold a function there until the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron remove the Vice Commodore. It’s a shame, the venue and the facilities are great. This is my opinion based on my experience with the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron. UNRELIABLE. UNPROFFESSIONAL....

What a rip off. We were about to order the reef fish with chips and salad for $15.30 when the waitress recommended the daily special of reef fish and garlic prawns with chips and salad for $19.90 so we went with that.
The plate arrived and initially looked good until we saw the two small prawns sitting on top of a small piece of fish which was sitting on an equally small handful of undercooked chips ... with the salad spread out to fill up the plate. We said to the waitress.. 2 prawns?? It fulfilled the plural for garlic prawns I guess, and she said she'd talk to the kitchen but we heard nothing else. Portion control was certainly in overdrive when we ordered. It was a mean stingy plate of food and it was not unfair of us to expect a few more prawns. In effect we paid an extra $4.60 each to have two small prawns sat on top of our fish!! To add insult to injury the waitress whisked the dessert plate away while that precious last two spoonfuls was still to be eaten and I can tell you we needed some filling up after the small meal. Complaining to the restaurant we had a polite, thank you for letting us know. yes, truly. All in all a very disappointing $72 spent there.
I have heard there could be a new restaurant management happening soon - roll...
Read moreA couple of year ago I stopped there, food & beverage okay. Bar Staff good needless to say they do not practice responsible service of alcohol serving double nips for the price of a single lending money & booking up drinks to be paid at there leisure. Noticed 1st hand. The table outside lhs was seated with members drunk & using drugs swearing in the presence of young children, local workers in there work clothes abusing the privilege. Other than that a nice place.
Unfortunately there’s a bit off...
