I know it takes time off from preparing a meal but I don't really like that some meals are pre-cooked (I like to see meals being cooked in the kitchen not warmed up in the microwave). I wanted rissoles as I like them but the way they prepare them they look like giant meatballs instead of flat and are almost always undercooked (all restaurants) in the middle. I instead had the roast of the day (beef) and found the beef cold while the veges were nice and hot. Also (again this seems universal in restaurants now) I ask if the pepper sauce is made by the chef or if it comes out of a packet and I am told yes it is indeed made in the kitchen by the chef out of a packet. How it it that a qualified chef has to resort to packet sauce instead of preparing from scratch? It isn't that difficult. I have no qualms if the sauces are pre-made after hours and then heated up when required. I just don't like the meals being done this way. One last thing. Butter and a bread bun was always with the meal to sop up the gravey but this seems to have gone the way of the...
Read moreIt's hard to get a decent steak from a club or pub in Toowoomba, but I've had two at Club Glenvale recently that were great!
These folks do accept walk ups but I'd suggest booking a table - especially during peak times such as Friday evening or the weekend. Typical club atmosphere with a large bar, gaming area and of course the bistro.
The bistro menu is extensive - very extensive. Pizza, pasta, steaks and a myriad of dishes to placate anyone. We chose chicken wings (honey soy) as starters both times, very generous for the portion (10-13 wingettes for the half kilo size).
When it comes to steak, I do like how the animal age is indicated on the menu. I felt like a bit more flavour last time so went with a PR sirloin. Great texture and cooked perfectly medium rare. The eye fillet was also spot on medium rare.
Pricing is very reasonable, and service speed as well. Will certainly be back...
Read moreA very disappointing dinner at Club Glenvale tonight. Our meals were the worst meals we've been served in Toowoomba. The Garlic Prawns dish was served cold..the Prawns were the smallest we've seen and the garlic was missing in action! The special fish dish looked good..but was also served cold..the fish was covering the chips with sauce..so the chips were soggy! We ordered garlic bread to eat with our drinks while we waited for our meals..but it didn't arrive. We asked a staff member to follow up and they returned with some herb bread. Even our drinks were disappointing. The beer seemed flat..absolutely no froth off the tap..and my small Bundy was served with maybe 2 or 3 ice blocks..which disappeared leaving me with a flat barely cool...
