Downs Hotel — Restaurant in Queensland

Went for a 70th surprise birthday and was very impressed. For lunch I had the downs burger and it was a decent size meal for the price, and tasty enough that there wasn't anything left on my plate when I was done. My father had a rump steak medium well and he said it was tender and cooked to his liking. My mother had the pumpkin feta salad and despite being someone that usually doesn't finish a meal when we go out, there wasn't anything left when she was done.

Staff were friendly, drinks reasonably priced (for when we had to pay outside of a bar tab). Decent pokie range if you're into that and the TAB area is well set out and designed with comfortable chairs with backs on them. We will...

What a disaster!!

Came in last night for some food but decided not to after I ordered a lemon, lime and bitters. I Had to remind the young lad twice to put bitters in the glass(clearly out his depth) He asked us to take a seat and he would bring the rest of the drinks out. He delivered our drinks but forgot our sparking wine. When I asked about it he informed me there was none left. We payed for a drink we did not receive.

The menu looked basic at best so we decided to head to the next establishment. Very poor all round, one of the waiters had no socks on. Just very unprofessional. Such a shame as this place used to be good. Obviously a change in management and a huge step...

I decided to go back to the downs tonight with my brother and wife again tonight after a pretty ordinary meal last time, unfortunately the food has gotten worse, badly cooked steaks with a panty smell, which is an indication the meat is either old or being sitting in its own blood, yes I know what I'm talking about I have been a chef for 30 yrs and know what causes that taste in meat, meat also very tough, the lady behind bar was very accomadating in refunding our meals, not sure if it is problem with chef or change of suppliers but I won't be back, chefs need to take pride in what they do! There was clearly no pride or effort put into the meals very disappointing...
