So here we go, I normally don't give bad reviews, however I owe it to my fans of the greater Toowoomba region to direct them to the cutting edge of cuisine in the cattle car belt.
Upon entering the rear entrance we had a view of an incredibly dirty smokers pit. It had a strong musk that could only assume was the remnants of a racoon fight club. Ciggerettes were strewn across the ground, obviously where racoon punters flicked their ciggies at the losers.
I ordered the 400g rump. It was quite expensive, however being a successful thousandaire I have been known to splurge on a 45 dollar steak from time to time. It was edible, however clearly from a Coles vaccuum packed bag. The side vegetables consisted of four whole carrots chopped up and Steamed. I was neither satisfied nor able to see better in the dark.
I did not know it was possible to make a bad garlic sauce, however Highfields tavern managed it. I was forced to conduct my own saucier duties at the table. A little salt and pepper helped the situation with the lack of flavour (table condiments were suprisngly dry due to some intelligently placed rice in the shaker, despite the level of humidity).
My wife ordered the ceaser salad, she asked for the sauce to be on the side due to ceaser salad sauce having anchovies commonly in it. However the salad came swimming in whole anchovies. It tasted like the salad was pickled in fish brine despite the removal of them. My wife is also quite allergic.
Now for the good. The staff was very understanding of the fish brine issue, and took the drinks and salad of the bill.
The staff was quite lovely and...

We placed our order and waited. as it was a quiet day (3 other people in dining room), Didn't expect to wait long.. Garlic bread arrived, dry, tasteless. Meals arrived. Upon placing my meal down the fish platter had a VERY strong smell (not pleasant). this was only the beginning. Starting to eat both meals which we ordered, it was evident that there was no love or thought went into either meal. I have worked in many restaurants over many years (35) and did not expect my meal to be from a small plastic bag with a few add ons. (I thought this stopped many years ago). The food was plastic and rubbery, I only had 12 chips then called it a day. My wife had the Chick Parma, well cooked on edges (too far gone to eat) then chewy on the inside. Salad must have been under the heat light waiting for cooked foods to arrive as limp and watery. The side of Mushroom sauce, well, it was not appealing to look at, and horrendous to taste. The poor waitress could not be more apologetic, and it looked to me that she had heard these comments on more than 1 occasion. For a lunch time meal on a weekend to cost $60 excluding drinks, one would expect at least edible food, especially when there was only 3 other diners. in the dining room.(we over heard them making remarks also. I believe that feet do the talking- Sorry, we wont be back. The 1 star is only because i can not load this review without 1.
Look forward to...
Read moreVery disappointing Christmas day. Had 2 hours to be seated, get drinks, line up to get a meal and then line up again for sweets. Whoever organised the day has never done it before. Only 2 people from our table were allowed to get drinks for everyone and stood in line for 15 minutes. Then the line-up to get our meals was 20 minutes to half an hour. Only 1 line. 3 salads were on offer and 2 of those came out of a pre-packaged lettuce leaves and the other potato salad. All roast vegetables piled intogether and no pumpkin left. All were soggy. Frozen greens out of packets not fresh. Meat was served in slabs. Soggy calamari and no chips left. Went back for sweets 15 minutes before we had to get out and nothing much left. No Xmas pudding, no trifle, no pavlovas on offer and the rest were slices. One jug of custard to do 100 to 150 people and nothing was topped up. Then a 10 minute wait for clean spoons. Paid $160 for this. Obviously won't be back and spoke to a few other people and they were extremely...
