In a place that is all about turtle conversation and nature conversation in general, and has lots of displays highlighting the importance moving away from single use plastics (not least of all, one right in front of the cafe), it was disappointing to see the level of dissonance between the turtle centre and the coffee shop itself.
As everyone was waiting in the centre to go out and see turtles, they could have served in reusable mugs and food on reusable plates and cleaned them after. If people did want to take drinks to the beach they could have offered reusable take away cups with a deposit scheme which are available in so many cafes in all parts of the world. Instead everything was being served in single use trays and cups and, for cold drinks, even plastic cups with plastic dome shaped lids like the sort some coffee shop chains serve frapucinnos in.
They were also giving away single use plastic bags for guests who had forgotten to bring coats. Knowing its wet seasons, guests should know to bring coats or risk getting wet, so I feel this wasn't a good look. However, there would be opportunities to rent out / sell branded rain jackets in the shop the cafe also operates as well as providing branded takeaway cups for guests to buy or borrow for a deposit for taking drinks away with them.
Further there was little in the way of plant based options, whilst this is typical of small cafes in the area, being at an animal conservation centre, and with the UN saying the single biggest thing we can do to combat climate change is eat more plant based food, having more options here and ensuring the meat and fish on sale is as sustainable as possible would be a much better look.
The cafe and the turtle centre (which is amazing), would benefit from more synergy and collaboration, particularly when it comes to focusing on sustainability and respecting the land and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy partner and I went out for breakfast. We arrived just after 10am and ordered the Eggs Benedict. On the board price was $22 but when it was put into the register it came up at as $25. We asked for this to be corrected. My partner got a flat white and it was a good coffee. We then waited 55 minutes for our food and were told sorry for the wait we are very busy. No other food apart from a serve of chips went out in this time. When we got our food it did not come with the toasted croissant just bread which was ok. However the eggs had undercooked whites and overcooked yolks. The wilted greens were soggy and bland. The server behind the counter was very good at her job and was getting coffees and other drinks out very quickly and effectively. While there we witnessed multiple people not in uniform going behind the counter and getting drinks out of the fridge and collecting fried food. Also a number of children were in the kitchen area on and off. Overall very disappointing and a waste...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHidden gem and an absolute must-try. The indigenous- inspired menu serves classic brekky/ brunch favorites. Great ingredients and amazing portions will definitely please everyone. Note: 1. you donātneed to buy tickets for Turtle Experience to eat here, 2. Lots of parking outside, 3. Plenty of tables indoor and outside. I am surprised that google lists only 2 reviews for this cafe. People visiting Bundy should try this place, itās much better than many āmust-doā brekky/ brunch places...
