Spent this weekend travelling from Cairns to Brisbane (1600kms) so was on a tight schedule. I am rarely at Bororen during the day so I was surprised to have so many options mid-afternoon. I chose the most interesting looking place in town and I was not disappointed.

Red Rocket Diner is on the left of the highway if you're heading north. I parked outside and wandered in to see a quirky but comfortable set up of a caravan and seats (all covered).

As I'm on a schedule I wanted something I could grab and eat on the road.

For $13 I ordered a ham and cheese toasties, and black tea (meal deal I think). I have no idea what cheese it was, but it was absolutely perfect. I was a good couple of kilometres away before I started eating so obviously too late to let the Diner know (hence this review). Easily one of the best, and most economical toasties I've had in a long time.

The Red Rocket team were also very caring and concerned. My glass keep cup does get hot with hot drinks and the team offered me extra serviettes to allow me to carry it to the car.

If you're a road traveller, and you're on your way through, and it's open, do yourself a favour, and stop in. Loos are just across the road and petrol 100 metres away. You won't be disappointed.

Also to note, while I was waiting another customer commented on how good the coffee was. I'm not a coffee drinker, but if you are, then you might...

We stopped in around lunch time school holidays to grab a couple pies but they were sold out :( the pie warmer was dead empty..thought it was their speciality. We remembered this spot from our last trip and the pies were awesome so I was a bit bummed. Settled for the cheaper hot dog, the New York, the sauerkraut and condiments were very good but the bun and hotdog were supermarket staples, overall pricey for what it was. Also got a Toastie and coffee combo from the ‘daily specials’ board. The toastie was good but the flat white coffee we got was terrible, burning hot and burnt. The lady that served us seemed in a hurry to take our order and tried to hurry us in a nice sort of way. Reason being the pies were sold out and I was baulking at the hot dog prices as a second choice. Understood that it’s a rural stop so accept that food can get pricey but, terrible coffee on a long trip is a no no! Average service and food leaves a sour taste in your mouth and the coffee leaves this review rating! No place should be selling coffee they can’t...

For the last 6.5 years we have travelled most of Central Queensland on a regular basis, have to eat on the run a lot... Have to say our stop at the Red Rocket Diner in Bororen was the most unexpected pleasant surprise !!!

BEST PIES EVER delicious, flakey, they don’t drop in your lap, I can totally recommend the beef and bacon, but make sure you get two !!

We now make it a ‘thing’ that we always stop here when we are anywhere nearby !

Great job to you guys for providing such a delightful place to stop and eat and enjoy some...

The pies here are outrageously good. Got a Smokehouse beef with mushy peas for $8 and it was one of the best pies I've ever eaten, and I come from the north of England! People very kind too and enjoyed a coffee and a pepsi spider while we were here. Learning about the story of the town pies being handed out during the war on the placard outside was really interesting too! You'll spot it on the road, just look out for the polar bear :)

The most amazing HOME MADE PIES. Perfect pastry, bottom short & does go saggy or soggy & the top is so flaky & the fillings are full of chunky tender beef, pork & chicken. They also have 'special pies' like corned silverside in white sauce & lamb's fry & Bacon and many more. Certainly value for money. We travelled 500 kilometres to get some. They also do toasted 🥪 sandwiches with real leg ham, yum.
