As a French tourist exploring the lush tablelands of Millaa Millaa, I stumbled into Rumours Diner looking for a simple lunch—and left with a story I’ll be telling back home.

The diner is quirky, charming, and refreshingly unpretentious. Locals fill the booths, and the vibe feels like a cross between a country café and someone’s friendly living room. The menu? Classic Aussie diner fare, unfamiliar to me at first glance.

Out of curiosity—and confusion—I ordered a toasted salad sandwich. The waiter hesitated. I insisted. She frowned. I doubled down. Toast the salad. Yes, really.

What arrived was surprising: crisp toasted bread, warm lettuce (don’t knock it!), grilled tomato, gooey cheese, onion, and beetroot. Something about the contrast of textures and temperatures worked. It was messy, satisfying, and oddly comforting. The toast added crunch, the veggies held their own, and somehow it all made sense. It was probably not meant to be toasted—but I’d order it again in a heartbeat.

So here’s my recommendation: go to Rumours. Order the toasted salad sandwich. Trust the accident. You’ll get a raised eyebrow from the staff—and maybe a great story to go with your lunch.

5/5 — worth the detour...

They have advertised $7.5 for iced coffees but somehow everytime, we are charged $10. Decided to tell them it was wrong and we were advised $7.5 was a small and $10 was a large. The pricing on the menu is innacurate as it shows there is 1 size and 1 price for iced coffee, no indication of a large.

We are locals and everytime we order the same drink and we are given a completely different drink every single time. We pay $10 for an iced coffee and somehow manage to get anything but that. iced lattes, sometimes we have gotten a coffee milkshake?? no cream, no ice cream. We pay for the iced coffee to get the ice cream and cream and dont recieve them. Each time there is a new worker and each time it is made incorrectly. All staff should be trained to create the same drink everytime. Any drink we are given is cheaper than what we paid and asked for. It is now ridiculous the amount of times this mistake has happened.

Unfortunately we have made the decision to not return again as we have given the staff/business multiple chances at doing it right and each time we are...

I recently visited Rumours Diner and had one of the best cafe experiences in the country. I have to say that the food was exceptional, and the staff members were welcoming, efficient, and super friendly. The cafe even offers plenty of parking for those who travelled by caravan or truck. I've frequented this café a few times now, and I highly recommend it.

The hot chocolate was also exquisite, and I have to mention the cleanliness of the cafe, which exceeded my expectations. They even have a variety of souvenirs for sale, and there's a post office and other shops nearby.

There's a wonderful children's park across the road too, so it's a perfect spot to grab a bite to eat with the family. I can attest that the coffee here is fantastic and not just a rumour, but an undisputed fact.

It's worth the one-minute detour to Millaa Millaa for a mug of their delicious latte, which is only $4.50, and they don't charge extra for soy milk.

We found this nice place during our trip to the waterfalls. (Which were beautiful!) It has new, really lovely owners, and is now called "Rumours Diner". When we got here in early november of 2019, it had only been open for about four weeks. They serve good and healthy food. As the only vegan (and GF) person in the group, I got some delicious sweet potato fries (best I've eaten in Australia so far) and a salad. This was not on the menu, but they were more than happy to make it for me anyways. The owner also told us that she wanted her place to be able to cater for everyone. There is a seperate fryer for glutenfree foods for example. We really enjoyed our (late) lunch here! 😋

What a great find this diner was for me. Pulled into Milla Milla around the breakfast hour and drove to the end of the street looking to placate a rumbling belly. Bonus for me was it is dog friendly dining outside so the hound could sit at the table. Ordered a latte and bacon & eggs and was very impressed by the quality and quantity of the breakfast. Great service topped of the dining experience. Handy things to note is the more than ample parking even if you are towing and a beautiful park directly over the road with playground and amenities block. The diner also has ample giftware that will give you some browsing time if so inclined.
