Thai on High Street — Restaurant in Queensland

Came here for dinner on a Sunday night based on the good reviews. Was very disappointed with our experience though.

I'll give the pros first: ○ Coconut rice was nice ○ Thai iced coffees came out relatively quickly and were good

Cons- ○ The restaurant was basically empty (only 2 other tables with patrons) but our small order took over 40 mins to come out. I simply cannot fathom how our food took this long to come out in a near empty restaurant. We only ordered 1 rice, 1 basic curry and 2 roti. ○ No explanation or apology for the insane wait time. ○ Ordered a large coconut rice but there is simply no way what we were served was a large. It was a tiny bowl with like 1 cup of rice and not a sharing size at all. We were either given a small accidentally or this sizing is abysmal. Given the massive wait though we just dealt with it because we were hungry. ○ Despite the restaurant being basically empty, a family with noisy children got sat next to us while we were waiting for our food. If the restaurant was actually busy this would have been a non-issue. It is just bizarre that when the restaurant was practically empty with many free tables, that they would be seated literally next to us.

Overall the food was just average but the extremely large wait time made this experience worse than it needed to be. We like to share meals but ended up leaving without ordering more food due to how long the wait for our original food was.

Dropped 2 stars due to complete lack of service. My wife, baby daughter and I came at 5:40 for a booking. The gentleman at the front didn't seem to know what I was talking about but led us to a table and got a high chair and menus, neglecting to ask if we wanted to start with some drinks.

After 20 minutes of waiting after deciding quickly on the banquet and making eye contact, I asked one of the dishwaiters if we could order. He took a couple of minutes to notify the waiter, who then proceeded to ask a table he had seated AFTER US if they were ready to order (they weren't but he persevered). At this point it felt intentional.

I'm not sure if it was just young staff or malicious intent but it was the final straw and we left notifying him of his poor service.

Usually our go-to Thai but Saturday was very disappointing. Firstly the service was very poor. The front of house was full with people looking to pick up takeaway. The kitchen was bringing food out and putting it on the front counter but nobody was calling out names on the orders. People had to constantly go and ask if their order was ready causing more congestion at the counter.
