Dhuey's Fish Market & Takeaway — Restaurant in Rockingham

Arrive - awards on the wall look promising. Fish in cold storage inside, looks good. I'm excited. We order the $17 barramundi fish and chips with some extras for my wife. The wait is nothing to note. About 10 minutes. As would be expected. We walk over to a nice bench in front of the ocean and unwrap our lunch. We're hungry and ready to feast. The chips are strange looking, limp but also browned, with mottling suggesting a refrying in tepid oil. The squid rings are anything but crispy. Soggy little elastic bands crusted with damp batter and salt. The dim sim is OK. The crab stick is passable but split open and a mess. The fish. My wife took one look at it and refused to eat it. She's definitely the smarter of the two of us. I was hungry enough that I was willing to take the chance. The batter was sloughing off of the gray, slimy fish, like the skin coming off of a burn victim. It fell apart in the hands like jelly. I ate it, because I have no dignity. We both had a distinct aftertaste in our mouths for several hours, the remnants of whatever gutter oil they use in the kitchen. We weren't poisoned, but both felt queasy for several hours. If we'd actually had gotten sick, im sure I'd be talking to whoever polices food safety in rockingham, instead of this review page.

Avoid....

So. We decided for christmas that we'd go local. You know. Support the community. But the circus that happened when we went to pick up our order was stupid. I'm not usually inclined to complain but hell. That was bad! We called ahead of time. Preordered. Paid a deposit and the first thing that we were told upon entering was "oh your order is already gone."

We were not amused. It took finding our order in our handwriting before the guy behind the counter finally gave us anything. Then while he was putting it together he consistantly got it wrong. (3kg of prawns is not the 2kg we ordered) they had a kid who could speak english who could have helped. But the asian man (who apparently couldn't read it) kept insisting he could do it cause the boy wasn't allowed near the till. snorts

Also. When someone says they want 4 of something, it doesn't mean you give them ten of it. None of the money totals matched the prices in the end and nothing was totally correct. Wether they got surprised by holiday activity or they just suck that much I don't know, but if our family ends up in hospital after eating this stuff I guess we'll know for sure...

Saturday 5/1/19 6:00pm - Ticket 106 - Ordered Grilled Salmon and Chips for Gloria (around $14 thank you) and a Barramundi and Chips ($16) plus squid, scallops and crab sticks for me and to share. Cost close to $50 for a dinner for two, but hey the claim to be the Best F&Chips in Rockingham so thought I’d give them a try. Got home to Warnbro, WT?? No Grilled Salmon! Ok mistakes happen. Rang them twice, phone got answered (after easily over a minute) twice. No voice but could hear them in the background. They just hung up each time. Their busy, so I thought so just tuck in to what we have. Uh oh! What have we here? Food : Barramundi was not barramundi chips were soggy remainder was almost up to average (but I think I’m being kind) portions very small Would have liked to review the grilled salmon, however that ain’t going to happen now Would I spend another $50 and give them another try? No thanks. Once bitten by shysters is enough for me. Suggest the F&Chips on the foreshore towards TCYC. Always reasonably good tucker with good portions there and you won’t...
