review no. 22 for 2024 @Hewett Country Bakery, Hewett, SA Steak Pepper Pie $6 Hewett is about 5 mins north of Gawler or apx 15-20 min on foot. Popped into Hewett Country Bakery. Had 4 or 5 varieties of pie, got the Steak Pepper pie, cos who isn't a fan ? lol The pie looked pretty decent. The pastry was slightly dry and flakey. Had an oriental taste to it, could definitely taste the salt in it. The pastry was slightly undercooked on top and below. The mince to gravy ratio was pretty spot on, had a slight gelatinous look. The pepper flavour was there but slightly lacking in punch. I've had some that blow your mouth away. Serving temp was pretty spot on and it didn't fall apart while eating. Small group of shops there, some outdoor seating or a bench wouldn't go astray. It was an average pie, ok for 6 bucks tho. Go here if you want a fatty feast of pork, pate and mayo. The rolls are jam packed with much more meat than many other shops, and it works well. The roast pork roll is slightly one dimensional in its fatty flavours but that's not a bad thing if that's what you crave at the time. Not the best around, but probably the best in this area.

Overcharged for Bah Mi roll & steamed dim sims, asked for combo pork & chicken Bah Mi roll & only had 1 small piece of chicken in it, too much pork fat & not crackle pure fat, meat was cold & worse tasting streamed dim sims I've ever eaten. I highly recommend avoiding here plenty of better quality Bah Mi roll shops in Gawler.

Pork roll was big, but full of fat, barely any meaty parts. Fried dimsims were soaked in oil, to the point where it was dripping down my arm. Customer service was poor, not friendly, and the lady working there was yelling at im assuming her sons who were working, they looked about 12 and 14 and clearly didn't want to be there.

I used tp come here years ago and they had the best pork roll around and were always do friendly, so I don't know if we went on a bad day but definitely wasn't the...

Best banh mi I have every eaten

First time, I was like yes! I lurrve Bahn mi rolls ....... tried a few more here and there Some absolutely atrocious!!

Some pretty tasty.

Definitely a must if in the area! Have even eaten one 5 hours after purchasing (food safety implemented, please don’t jam one in the glove box and eat it next time your hungry!😅)and ate every little crumble

Hmmmm think I’ll be headed that way in the near future, even just the thought has me drooling...
