I have only given one star because there is no option for zero stars. We stayed at a town nearly an hour away and wanted to visit this hotel for dinner on a Thursday night. We rang the hotel several times to find out the opening hours. Nobody answered the phone on any of our 5 calls which were made in the early afternoon. The answering machine told us the opening hours for this day (Thursday) are 11am - 7pm. We headed there for dinner, took about a 45-50 min drive. When we arrived a girl met us at the gate and said they were closed. We told her we rang and we were told they’re open til 7pm. She said the website says it’s 5pm that they close and we told her again it was the answering machine that told us 7pm. All she could say was that they’ll have to change it. Didn’t seem to care too much that we had first checked the hours of operation and second the distance we had to drive. There was also a bunch of people sitting in the gardens at the tables with music playing. SUPER DISAPPOINTED. Maybe they should try answering their hotel phone as people try to do the right thing and check to avoid disappointment. They need to change the answering machine. SUGGESTION TO FUTURE PATRONS BE AWARE YOU MAY TRAVEL A LONG WAY AS WE DID JUST TO...
Read moreWhat a quirky little place. This pub is literally in the middle of nowhere, so having a camping area out back for patrons is great. Check the hours of the pub before you come here, as there are days they don't do lunch or close at 5.00pm. It has a very tiny bar, but very versatile. The staff were very friendly and answered any questions that you asked them. We had the beef Schnitzel , which literally didn't fix on the plate, so we got a doggy bay to take home as we couldn't eat it all. They sold some yummy jams and spreads ( which I brought). There is an area outside where there is entertainment on the weekends. The outside fire would be lovely on a cold night, drinking a coldie and looking at the stars. They had Coopers Pale ale as well as The Woolshed apple ciders from the local brewery in the Riverland. There are many photos and pictures on the walls containing the history about the pub, take time to read them as it is very interesting. Please follow me if you enjoy...
Read moreWhilst holidaying in Waikerie my partner and I decided to have a look at Overland Corner. I was a little sceptical as it was a 50 min drive from where we were staying. Sitting on the banks of the mighty Murray, it was not easy to locate off the main road but what a GEM of a place. Before leaving I thought it prudent to try and book for lunch – that being a long weekend.
Managed to speak to Brad, the manager, and he advised that they were booked out but he asked when we would get there. Said we could be there by 1:00pm to which he said they already had 130 bookings but he would fit us on a “reserved table” as they would not be there till 2:00 pm.
Absolutely worth the drive. Great location, very friendly staff and food was fantastic. Had a couple of local beers and thoroughly enjoyed the day as did everyone else there. Definitely coming back. Thanks to all the staff and Brad for fitting us in and looking after us....
