Raikas Family Restaurant — Restaurant in South Hedland

I like what the owners have done to this place. Outside can be hot and dusty but upon stepping into Raikas, it's like you are transported to another place. I'm a fan of what they have done to the place from colourful walls, decorative pictures, table décor and nice ambience with their background music. The specials I thought had a good selection of Asian/local favourites. I ordered the scotch fillet which was good, had a nice char on both sides and inside was juicy and tender. Also got the chilli mussels which had a good flavour but was too spicy for a chilli mussels, in addition to this the mussels were overcooked (chewy and rubbery). Dinner with old friends, table of 6, pre booked. We had a large round table with plenty of room for meals, drinks and easy conversation. The order service was prompt although no water was offered or served. Our meals varied from seafood to steak as well as a couple of Asian style dishes and everyone enjoyed their choice. Presentation was good, delivery time reasonable although a little slow on the final plate leaving the other diners to either start or allow the meals to cool. Wine choices were limited with no Sauv Blanc available and dear by the glass @$12. The restaurant was busy but not full. We were passing through Port Hedland recently and while chatting to a local person we asked for a recommendation for lunch. She told us that she always enjoys dining at Raikas. We were very pleased that we took her advice! My barramundi and lobster tail was cooked to perfection. The accompanying vegetables and jus were outstandingly delicious. My husband enjoyed his seafood platter as well. The fresh seafood was very very fresh and the cooked seafood was crunchy and delicious. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of our meals. Our only problem is that Port Hedland is a very long way from Brisbane where live. It would be great to have this outstanding restaurant close by....
