Food really needs work. The burger's have zero flavour. We ordered 2 x beef burgers, garlic bread and some chicken wings. The food is really bland, everything 'looks' great but the flavours aren't there at all, I think it's a produce problem.
What I think the problem is, the way the menu is designed, is so constrained to try and please every tourist under the sun to a point where any flavour has been taken away. For $27 I'd expect a decent burger with great fresh ingredients, even take the chips away, just nail the burger. But because the flavours were so dull, it was as if the there was a 'safe side' approach to the menu that it ended up as an airplane food menu. The beef burger had hardly anything on it and was expensive, really underwhelming.
Also the fact you need to get up and get cutlery once the food arrives is strange. Supply the cutlery and if the patrons need more then they can goto the bar. I understand trying to make things more efficient but the experience of the food arriving then having to walk away to get cutlery, no good. Also what's with all the food trolleys around? Felt like a modern retirement village with bright colours. Overall it's an ok experience, overpriced for very little flavour. The $6 Banh Mi I get for lunch packs incredible flavour. These burgers are $27 each.
The bones are there for a great spot and I understand food is subjective and hard to please everyone. But a lot of the comments here sans a few are mostly directed at...
Read moreThis place has been completely renovated to erase all of it's previous history as a member of the Ettamogah Pub Group. The transformation has evolved the premises from the iconic sloping walls and the old car on the roof. Extensions to the facade now include more under cover outdoor seating. It has a surfing theme throughout the interior and expanding into a somewhat tropical Island resort theme on the exterior. A popular place on any day of the week for tourists, but the attendance swells on weekends to include many travellers calling in off the passing highway for a rest or refreshments. A large variety of popular beers are on tap and spirits and cocktails can be purchased at the many bars. Numerous floor levels allow different atmospheres to exist within the Pub. Private nooks can be used for romantic interludes or larger areas are ideal for groups or parties. There is a restaurant on one of the upper floors that serve up excellent dishes daily, including evenings and tea and coffee are also available. Behind the Pub is the iconic Aussie World Amusement park. Aussie World is a popular destination for families with children. Live music can often be heard at both venues. The Pub is an excellent venue for live bands and dancing, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Quite a few variety stores are situated adjacent to the Pub. An independently owned fuel service station at the entrance to the grounds has fuel at below the cost of the...
Read moreWe are from South Africa, touring Australia’s east coast. Seeing the Banana Bender Pub, that looked really impressive from the high way, we looked it up on the internet and it looked really family friendly with the decor and everything looking very child friendly and inviting, we decides as a traveling party of 8 adults and one child to have dinner and drinks when comming back from the beaafh, but on arrival the bartender was very rude because of my 3 year old boy walking with out shoes. I asked him politely why this is a problem and is there not a child friendly area for children, he got a bit agresive towards us, shouting no mate this is a restuarant whta am i thinking, I explained we are traveling and apoligised but told the bartender I am not fighting but just asking if children is allowed to play around, With my child not having shoes I asked again is there any place for our child or should we rather leave, my wife then asked if we pick him up will it be fine where the bartender replied said yes but we need to leave. Where we then left, as this seems a bit rediciouls and totally unwelcoming as we found other pub/restaurants along with the people of Australia was really friendly and accommodating towards us tourists and children. Sorry but we will not promote or recomend the Banana Bender Pub to any families or other tourists! Horrible experience and your...
