As a local I have been here a few times and while the view is nice, the service and quality of food has consistently gotten worse. Coffee has never been great, they often have sold out of several meal options and twice we have ordered meals only to either not have one come out or to have our order brought out incorrectly. However we understand accidents happen and we like the atmosphere there so we hadnt decided against returning until the last time, when we left before ordering and definitly wont be back. Due to covid, there are no longer table menus but a large chalk board menu, (which is totally fine), however this one menu does not outline which foods are gluten/dairy free/vegan etc. I am coeliac and am pregnant, so its extremely important that I do not eat gluten. There was a young girl at the counter who was lovely but not sure which options were 100% gluten free, and then an older lady who was rude and dismissive, (shrugging her shoulders and shaking her head), and made me feel awful for asking. She told me that the meal I inquired about was gluten free, (as they swap the bread for gluten free bread), but when I explained that gluten can also be in sauces and burger patties etc, and that I wanted to check if this was the case, she irritably called out to another lady who was cooking about it. The other lady was nicer and at least went to check, but the lady behind the counter then began talking the the people behind us like we were in the way. I apologised again and explained how I had to check as I get really sick but she ignored me and acted as though we were a huge inconvenience. We ended up leaving as we didnt feel confident that they could provide gluten free food, but mostly because I was made to feel so awful about something that I have no control over. The staff need better training at understanding standards of service, dietary restrictions and food safety....dont offer gluten free, (or other dietary restricted options) if you dont understand the importance, and dont employ staff who dont care about...

Best Devonshire cream teas outside of Devon UK

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking the cream tea. I’m from Devon in England and Devon and Cornish cream teas are to die for. We use clotted cream which can only be made in the UK. Forget the old argument about which goes on top or comes first – jam or cream and let’s tell you about Glass on Glasshouse. We had spent best part of the day climbing Mount Ngungun and checking out other trails and needed refreshment. Glass on Glasshouse is situated on the side of a hill with some stunning views and a lovely outdoor seating area (there is seating indoors too). Plenty of parking outside and a great menu of meals (the burger and chips look gorgeous). We saw the Devonshire cream tea and thought we just had to check it out. Proper pots of tea, cream and jam and deliciously warm scones (don’t care if you pronounce it as in gone or as in own). It was simply mouth-watering. No there is no clotted cream but it was a lovely smooth cream all the same and honestly the best cream tea we have had that doesn’t do clotted cream, so keep it up GoG. Best thing about Glass on Glasshouse (GoG) is that the prices are excellent – really I thought they would have been charging more which would have been tough, but they make everything affordable and for that a huge round of applause to you guys. The staff were lovely and friendly and everyone eating there seemed really satisfied. If we are passing we will definitely drop in again (maybe try out those burgers!) NB – there is a great little notice saying that don’t have WiFi and pretend like its 1990 and talk to each other! Couldn’t agree more (or just use your mobile data which works very well...

Weekend / Sunday riders - a small group of 3 people who were first time visitors to The Lookout Cafe.

From observations, Sunday staff members were working vigorously hard to keep up with the demand of continuous visitors to the area.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome. The menu was simple to follow with just the right amount of options.

After ordering 3 ice coffees & food, we were able to get a table outside, luckily! Our ice coffees arrived sooner than expected and tasted super delicious. Food arrived several minutes thereafter with no complaints from any of us.

We were served by a young man who was polite, respectful & friendly. We were impressed by his work ethic knowing how to serve on people but most of all … learning to work for money on one of the most busiest days of the week. Great stuff young man, what a champion, and thanks to the team of hard workers for being their for your employer and the many visitors you continually get.

Impressive service all round with picturesque views.

The only thing that requires improving is the parking situation for both cars and motorcycles with limited safe parking space. Possible beyond their control and maybe more of a council situation. Not entirely...

Definitely be on the LOOKOUT for this gem—it's the best cafe in the Glasshouse Mountains! Everything was hot and cooked to perfection, even with the place packed. The servers were great, quick to clean up and make room for more eager diners. My partner and I shared a Burger, Big Breakfast, and a cappuccino. At exactly $50, it was worth it. The Breakfast Burger was a standout with a perfectly runny poached egg, great BBQ sauce flavour! The Big Breakfast platter was equally fantastic, especially the freshest bread slices and eggs. The coffee was alright—looked professional but the looks were better than the taste. The stunning scenery, paired with a gentle breeze carrying the scents of nature, made for an unforgettable experience. Watching birds and soaking in the mountain views is pure bliss. Tip: Arrive early to snag the best seat and check out the gift shop.
