We dined here for the New Years Eve dinner & to be honest, it was a little underwhelming. At $159 per person, I did have high expectations. For starters, there were a number of waiters & we were asked twice what water we'd like & then twice if we'd like to start our meal. Obviously not a big deal but I think things were a little disorganised.
With the meal, we were provided a 'welcome cocktail'. Now, two issues with this, when offering if we wanted the welcome cocktail, I think we should have been told what it was, prosecco & cambord. Second, I would barely call it a cocktail. I think if it had of been described as a 'drink', that would have been a more fitting description.
Onto the food, everything was really only just hot, more so on the warm side I would say. We had chicken wings, barramundi & beef skewers, served with rice for entree. We knew the menu when we booked & so I won't delve too much into how I don't think the menu was the overall best choice but the flavours were there for each dish, it was just a bit disappointing with the temperature & the rice seemed like a bit of a filler as it didn't really go with anything.
For main we had a chicken & spanner crab dumpling green curry with asparagus stir fry & rice. Again, the temperature of the dishes was on the warm side & although the flavours were there it generally seemed underwhelming.
Dessert was a banana pudding with ice cream & the entire dish was cold. I think the pudding & the little banana fritter on top of the pudding should have been served hot as the texture of the pudding was strange with it being cold & nobody wants a cold fritter.
I also had a Shojo Dragon cocktail which I didn't finish as it wasn't particularly pleasant. It definitely wasn't made using fresh lime juice & it had almost a stevia taste to it, which I dislike.
All in all, we did have a nice night out but for the price, the dinner was very underwhelming in respect of the overall menu choice, the serving sizes & temperature...
Read moreJust driving away from the Tamarind restaurant and I’m honestly pretty disappointed.
I’ve eaten at quite a few Asian restaurants around the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane and the first two words I would use to describe my experience are overpriced and underwhelming,
My wife and I ordered the banquet dinner and a bottle of wine. We were immediately happy with the soup that came out first but were subsequently disappointed by most of the other dishes. The prawns tasted nice but were very difficult to eat in a fine dining setting as they were stuck to the shells and turned into finger food. The pork was grossly sweet and the dumpling were just dumplings. The mains of beef brisket and fish curries were even worse. The brisket was a tad over cooked and the sauce, again, was not balanced and way too sweet. The fish tasted like it had been on the bottom of a freezer for 6 months.
All of this for a grand total of $365 for 2 banquet dinners and a bottle of wine.
I would recommend spirit house in Yandina for a similar style experience but much better in every way. Even Rice Boy in Mooloolaba will give you superior flavors for a third of the price.
Happy to accept that maybe the kitchen just had a shocker on the night but I have been to many other restaurants of a similar style that are much cheaper with much more balanced flavors than I had in...
Read moreUnfortunately...very underwhelming. There's a review from around 7 months ago that almost exactly mirrors our experience. Lovely staff, however still in training. We had cocktails on the deck first and our lovely waitress let us know that she was excited to practise making them. We were then seated and ordered the banquet. We had high expectations, this is a hatted restaurant with great reviews & dreamy instagram food pics. The service was slow in between a few of the courses, and on several occasions the staff couldn't remember what the meals were (totally appreciate that everyone has to learn, but I'd expect trained staff who can explain the meals at this level of dining). Each course of the banquet was 1) luke-warm (I've never experienced this before, none of the meals were hot!) 2) lacking flavour & any kind of 'wow' factor. When we went to pay (approx $350) we were asked it it would be visa or mastercard. When we responded 'mastercard' we were hit with a 1% surcharge. As you can see in the review that mirrors ours below, they were hit with the same 1% surcharge for paying with a visa. That seems scammy honestly. Not worth the investment and not at the level it needs to be at by any stretch. Save your money & go to the local Thai take-away,...
