If you are craving Authentic Traditional Home Made Hearty Iraqi Meals then this is the place to go. My take away meal was a Slow cooked tender Lamb Shank in a deep tomato broth marinate, the meat was cooked perfectly with it falling off the bone with ease, with pieces of freshly baked Iraqi Bread soaking up all the tomato broth mixed with lamb juice flavours. This dish is served with a traditional Iraqi Salad & Authentic Iraqi Pickles.
I have also tried the Charcoal BBQ Minced Iraqi Kebab Skewers of 3, with BBQ Char-grilled tomatoes & Onion lightly sprayed with tangy sumac powder flavouring; served on top of freshly baked Iraqi bread on a platter. Comes with a side of fresh salad as well traditional Iraqi AMBA mango curry pickles if dining in house.
The Char-grilled kebab skewers are flame crisped on the outside, soft on the inside. This time around the kebabs seemed very lean, comes with a lemon wedge to squeeze over Kebabs, the lemon juice absorbed into the meat further enhances the flavour, which would also go great with garlic or hummus condiment dips. The cucumber & tomato salad was really refreshing..
The meals here are not only fulfilling, but were of a generous size portion that will definitely satisfy your appetite.
Liked the recent renovations to the restaurant. More spacious & room for movement, with comfortable dining arrangement.. Cushioned benches with dining tables line one side of the restaurant & cushion dining chairs with tables on the other side. The walls are decorated with an interesting display of large pictures depicting the historical aspects of Iraq & the culture. The food & restaurant is representative of the Iraqi culture & quite...

Extremely Disappointing and Disrespectful Experience
Visited Aswar Baghdad Restaurant in Fairfield with my family after reading good reviews, but what we experienced was nothing short of shocking. We were told to wait as there were “no seats available” yet clearly, there were empty tables. When we asked for assistance, a lady curtly refused and said, “No English” with zero effort to help or communicate. After waiting 45 minutes, we were finally given a table that hadn’t been cleaned. We waited another 15 minutes, and still no one came to clean it. I approached the counter to at least get a menu, only to be told abruptly that “we are not taking orders.”
What kind of service is this?
It felt like we were clearly not welcome and unfortunately, the impression we got was that if you’re not Iraqi, you’re not treated with basic respect here. That’s not just poor hospitality that’s discrimination. Very upsetting, especially when visiting with family.
To the owner: please train your staff to treat every customer with courtesy and dignity. No one comes to your restaurant to feel ignored, insulted, or unwelcome. Wearing crosses and claiming values is meaningless if this is how you treat people.
Absolutely not recommending this place to anyone outside their own community. A complete waste of time and an incredibly...
Read moreWe used to visit this restaurant weekly, but since the renovation, the quality has significantly declined.
The staff seem indifferent to customer service, and the attentiveness to requests has diminished. The food portions, particularly rice and salads, have shrunk, and the quality of ingredients has noticeably dropped. The hygiene standards are concerning, with the restrooms being particularly unclean.
It’s clear that many of the talented staff members have left, resulting in a lack of proper service. There also appears to be a language barrier, making communication difficult; staff often struggle with taking orders accurately and require multiple prompts for simple requests.
Despite this, I still love the grilled BBQ fish—it’s delicious. I just wish management would invest in training their staff to improve professionalism and customer service. I am happy to chat to the boss in person and provide some feedback.
Customer is king! No customer means no...
