๐ Spent Mother's Day lunch at Roberto's inside Bangor Tavern, and while there were some highlights, our experience was a bit mixed.
We requested a table near the playground, hoping for a nice view while the kids played, but ended up inside, far away with no visibility. When the kids ran to the playground, they found it wet, leaving them with soaked clothes. It would be great if they could dry it off next time or at least put up a caution sign.
Although they promote themselves as family-friendly and offer free kids' meals on Sundays, it was quite unsettling to have UFC playing on the screens. With all the blood and gore, it wasn't the best environment for our little ones, and many nearby families shared the same concerns. Definitely not ideal for a Mother's Day lunch!
On a positive note, the renovations and new aesthetic looked lovely and have the potential for a nice vibe. The pappardelle pasta was a standoutโdelicious with well-cooked, tender ragu topped with Parmesan! However, the prawn linguini was too chilli for our taste, and we didn't enjoy it.
The guys with us ordered schnitzels and thought they were average, though the portion sizes were generous. My sister tried the pumpkin ravioli and said it was nice. The kids had a cheeseburger and fish and chips, and they were great sizes and tasty, so our little ones were happy!
Overall, there's potential here, but they might want to rethink some aspects to make it more family-friendly.

ย ย ย Read moreI have lived in the Menai area for 37 years now and I have experienced and dealt with many Licensees at The Bangor Tavern, in actual fact we have developed strong relationships over the years and become friends. Incidentally I was in the hospitality industry for 30 years selling wine, so I do qualify to have an opinion about hotel/restaurants with my experience. I would just like to post a review to say the current owners of the hotel are second to none however they have been in the hospitality industry for a very long time over 40 years. The Micola family are the real deal and their son Adam, heading up the business with Mum Amanda have really taken our local hotel to another level. The food, the beverage variety, the service, the new facilities and the aesthetic updates are just wonderful. Anyone that is not happy with the enormous progress of this licensed establishment must have either, lost in the TAB by backing a very slow horse and done their cash on the ponies or maybe wasnโt intelligent enough to enter the correct answers on trivia night and lost.
The Tav is extremely user friendly and a great place to spend time with friends.
Go and enjoy, my...
ย ย ย Read moreWent to try out the new Robertos tonight with the family. Wonโt be rushing back or recommending for others to. I didnโt find the staff very capable in the kitchen. The cheese garlic bread was undercooked, cold and soggy. Arancini was cold and tasteless. The chicken wings were good, however our plate with 2 left was taken (they did bring us another fresh plate when we told them we werenโt done). Pizza was average, nothing fancy or wood fire tasting, the warm pumpkin salad was not at all warm, a few pieces of small uncooked pumpkin pieces and a whole plate of red cabbage. The ragu pasta was nice at least. For a place that promotes share meals, we had to ask for plates, twice because the first time the staff forgot and then again after entrees were taken we had no plates again. Iโd suggest accessible plates for us to take at our leisure to be better and also cutlery and serviette baskets on tables. Best bit about the dinner was the kids having fun in the play area. Wonโt...
