Ok, this is a fabulous treasure hidden in, of all places...... St Mary's.
My two sons and I were looking for an open cafe on this rainy day. We googled cafe in St Mary's and most were closed or closing... It was 2.30pm Saturday.
We found 'Big Tree House Cafe'. When we arrived we were greeted by such lovely people. We placed our order after 10 mins, coffee was bought to us very quickly, it was so fragrant and delicious and we knew that we were in for a treat.
I ordered eggs which came with hash browns and sourdough bread, my two son's decided to share some food, a plate for 2.
The food was bought out to us (and so beautifully presented) with a selection of fruit & a couple of macrons adding to the colour and beauty of the dish, delicate flowers completed the picture on a two tier stand. The portion size was perfect! Salmon came with my son's food, and as they know I love salmon they blessed me with it.
The beautiful South Korean lady, told us that they had two professional Chefs in the kitchen, and you could see it in the presentation and taste. She is so lovely to speak to and was very attentive to us.
Hidden in this Cafe is a well-known famous Chef who was based in Darling Harbour. This Cafe has added a much needed injection of rich diversity, beautiful presentation, friendliness, great conversation, and appreciation for their patrons without high prices.
The photo of the book 'Flavours of Sydney', is a book one of the Chef's is in.
I highly recommend this Cafe and if you don't know where you want to eat.... this is one place that you need to visit.
Thank you to the team at Big Tree House Cafe...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you want Instagram aesthetics and influencers making reels, you've come to the wrong place. Not to say that the cafe looks bad, but it is clear they've focused on the RIGHT things a cafe should be focusing on.
The quality of the food is always consistent, always fresh and always delicious. The man in the kitchen does not miss a beat and it's clear that he's put a lot of effort into making sure the food always delivers. The menu is ACTUALLY interesting, which can't be said for a lot of cash grab cafes around the city. There's a lot of variety on offer although the naming convention gets you scratching your head, but that's the fun part. Personal recommendations include but are not limited to: "Eggs in Hell" and "Morning Glory".
A true mom and pop shop that punches well above its weight. In terms of quality it beats out all the big name and social media focused cafes. It's no-bullshit, good food, great coffee, just as a cafe SHOULD be.
If you're looking for creative food cooked with soul and a bloody good coffee, go on down to Big Tree House Cafe and give it a go. You'll be welcomed with a big smile and a great feed to get you started...

I walked into to be greeted with smiles and given a menu and table to sit at well I ordered. The menun is simple just how I like it, so its not hard to decide from 30 different things. Definately something for everyone on the menu.
The presentation of the food was just gorgeous. Loved how well done everything was. I ordered the feed for 2pp and I was not disappointed. It had a good variety of food to choose from and it even had a nice fruit platter to help wash the food down afterwards. I also ordered my mother a small meal of grained sour dough and scrambled eggs and I gotta say its like a 5 star chef made them scrambled eggs. They were super fluffy and so yummy.
I MUST SAY THE COFFEE IS JUST SPOT ON !!!
For customer service I was very please because its a simple thing to just serve with a good attitude and a smile and they definately delivered both. The food was just delicious and the coffee was too scrumptious.
If your ever in the area and need a good meal or a great coffee definately check...
