Saturday morning, hubby scrolling the Allpress app to see which cafes near us served Allpress as we're avid fans. Stumbled on Bubala - one look at the menu and they had us at shakshuka...

What an amazing hidden gem in Allambie Heights! Walking up to Bubala we saw how busy it was and as we didn't have a booking we weren't sure we'd get a table, but we were greeted warmly by Jess the owner and he found us a table inside by the window, happy days!

The problem with Bubala is there are so many amazing dishes on the menu...how do you decide what to eat? We both LOVE Middle Eastern food and we were extremely excited to find a place on the Northern Beaches serving up some of our favourites.

I had the Potato Latke and hubby had the Tel Aviv Scrambled Eggs - he said they were THE best scrambled eggs he's ever eaten, so soft and creamy. The potato latke was amazing, bacon wasn't oily, avo was fresh with a hint of lime, the only thing I'd fault and it's a minor point, is my poached eggs were a little over, not the oozy runny yolk - but it was so busy, they may have been left in the water a bit too long?

Coffee is Allpress, it's aromatic and smooth - good coffee doesn't need sugar and this certainly was a fantastic coffee - loved the Lindt chocolate shavings on the top of my cappuccino. We could easily sit by the window all morning, sipping coffee and people watch.

We had a good chat with Jess and discovered they're also open for dinner, as we poured over the dinner menu we made plans to come back again....and again....and again...

If you're looking for a restaurant that gives you a taste of the Middle East with dishes made from the freshest ingredients, warm hospitality then this is the...

Could not be more disappointed! Disgusted in fact! I’d rang twice to make sure they can cater for Coeliacs- assured they could. Meal came out with chips cooked in the same oil as gluten items. Informed waitress of this and she indicated that we should just remove the chips and cut off the bit of the burger that was touching the chips!!!!! Acting manager then came over and offered to re-cook the burger…… which then took forever to come and everyone else has finished eating. This was to a Coeliac CHILD! no offer of a drink, no apology- nothing. The burger finally came with no side, no care and no apology. When I said something, I was simply told by the acting manager that he has been a chef for 16 years so he “knows” these things. When I asked how did they then NOT know about the cross contamination of using the fryer then- I was simply told, mistakes happen.

A few hours later- right on time, my son showed signs of being GLUTENED. I rang and spoke to the owner, who then said he was aware of what happened (told during their hand-over) but he can’t comment as he doesn’t know???? Once again no apology, no regard, no accountability, because apparently the night before they had catered to Coeliacs and all was fine. Not sure how that relates to my son getting sick but apparently the owner must feel that this is some sort of excuse?

So thanks Bubala for ruining our Christmas lunch with friends, making my son sick and being extremely insensitive to the repercussions of...

This is my favourite breakfast place so I thought I would give it a try for dinner. The food was very tasty, refreshingly different. Unfortunately the service was poor. We were advised to order a dish from each section of the menu and they would be served in order. Dips came first with bread, wonderful! Then fried cauliflower, we sent this back as we had ordered the whole cauliflower which we pointed out on the menu. Butterflied prawns next very nicely presented albeit a little overcooked, then before we finished the prawns, potatoes arrived, we sent back as we asked for these with the chicken, then 2 mins later chicken whole cauliflower and potatoes. A very rushed experience. 2 bottles of wine + dessert $300. Could have easily been 5 stars if staff listen a dont stand around on their phones. I would return maybe if byo offered even if I have to pay $10pp corkage as the limited wine selection was average. I hope that doesnt slund all negative because this is a lovely place but if I were the owner I would be having a staff...

Was very excited to try Bubala as I am local to this restaurant and the menu looked so enticing. Had breakfast last weekend and found it difficult to choose from the dishes, they all looked phenomenal. I had the eggs and seasonal mushrooms. It was delicious and generous. Will work my way through the rest of the breakfast menu then move to lunch or dinner. What particularly impressed me was the way the manager spoke to staff who were inexperienced. He was respectful, polite and encouraging. Bravo. Customers hear these moments and I was appreciative as a customer hearing this. Northern Beaches local need to support Bubala and everyone else just needs to visit to appreciate and enjoy.

Great alternative breakfast options to the regular big breakfast fare. I had the Israeli scrambled eggs with falafel on gluten free bread with beetroot spread. Israeli Scrambled Eggs. Falafel is home made and was very tasty. Meal was gluten free although falafel was fried in same oil as other foods but is cleaned each day. I am a Coeliac and made this clear when asking about the menu. Very knowledgeable. Separate toaster. I took a punt and no problems. Coffee was very good too.

From the moment we walked in till the moment we left… what a fabulous hidden gem…the food scrumptious, divine, delicious, the staff friendly and attentive… atmosphere was what ever you wanted it to be with tables of couples, a girls night out or a group of friends enjoying great food, mock tails, cocktails and great wine. Nick the owner met and greeted everyone as they arrived and left… we all felt special and left smiling after a fantastic night.
