I had recently come back to this restaurant after coming a year ago and having a great experience. Sadly the experience was tarnished by the end of my meal. The food was delicious and we had a very nice waiter named Will who throughout the evening was attentive and friendly but at 8pm we had the man at the door come over and verbally kick us off our table as ‘the people for your table have come early and you need to leave’. The booking was from 6:30pm till 8:30pm as per the email with the reservation. We still had food and drinks on the table when we were told this. 10 minutes later we were asked again to leave and when I asked about the reservation time I was told 90 minutes for 2 people but there were 3 and I had the reservation receipt for the 2 hours. We were not offered another table to finish our food at but told we could go to the ‘pub next door’. I was then told after that that they had overbooked and needed the table. As I was leaving I overheard the man at the door then say to the people that were waiting that it was our fault that they weren’t seated. This was pretty awful after we had paid $300 for the meal plus a tip. We wouldn’t have tipped if this had happened before. On our way out the people waiting us asked what time we arrived and I told them that we arrived before 6:30pm and were supposed to have 2 hours. They said that they knew of the ‘incompetence’. Extremely disappointed that this has occurred as the meal and prior...
Read moreNot as good as the experience with the old place in Surrey Hills which I went to dozens of time. Shares toilet with the Paddington Inn. It was Anzac Day and a big day for young people to go to the pub. My daughter's birthday and she came back from the toilets after confronting so many drunk women in the toilet I.e. she decided to go somewhere else after dinner. Not a good partnership for an elegant looking restaurant. We had all chosen our meals during the day from the website menu. None of these were on the menu. Entrees were good but serving with soft focaccia is not too delicious. On the main, te lamb ragu a bit 2 dimensional and disappointing but the seafood spaghetti was sensational. Unfortunately on a busy night sharing facilities with Paddo Inn and inconsistency of food I won't be back. So sad because their Surrey Hills restaurant was my favourite. Having said that, the service was excellent but too much of a shock after Surrey Hills. This was my second visit to their new location. The last time...
Read moreBig disappointment. We have been going to Il Baretto for so many years. The new space is modern and stark. The service was unfriendly and very similar to Il Baretto in Surry Hills. So why the 3 stars? The quaintness is gone, the pasta was very plain and bland. We had Calamari Fritti ($20) which was the highlight. Then we had bread with olive oil ($5) which was at best the bread they give you when you are in Italy that no one eats...dry and not great. Follow that with two pastas, bucatini all"Amatricia and Tagliatele Bolognese...we were excited but they were both bland but at ($25) and $(27) its no longer il baretto simple and easy. Everyone has choice and for this, you can get a better ambience with much better food.. We looked around the room and the clientele had all been to Il Baretto in Surry HIlls...the nostalgia was not there. Hope they make it as everyone deserves to be successful for us it was disappointing as it was no better than a basic italian in the rocks or...
