McCarrs General Store & Restaurant — Restaurant in Sydney

We booked McCarrs restaurant after fabulous recommendations so were disappointed when there were several big blunders on the night. Firstly, I must commend the scallops, pepperoni pizza and the macadamia salad. Delicious. However, the (expensive) scallops were brought out before the bread and olives starter. We asked for bread, and when it finally arrived, well after we’d finished our entree, the green dip was missing. By the time we had enjoyed the bread and olives, the dip finally arrived. Nothing left to dip into it. The restaurant then brought us more bread (on the house). When we questioned why this was all happening, the waitress (who was sweet) gave the excuse that the ‘kitchen was busy’, but sorry, it was Saturday night, so of course it’s busy. The kitchen should be prepared and send out the food in the correct order, even if it’s a bit slow. The next disappointment was a black hair on the green pizza. No one at our table had black hair.. Then our heater ran out of gas. No one got it going again so we had to fetch our own from an empty table. The final blow was the departure of one of the chefs on his extremely loud motorbike. We had to stop talking while we waited for him to put on his helmet and gloves and head off. Perhaps he should be asked to park it away from the veranda and dining guests? I do hope to give this restaurant another try, and hope these issues have been sorted by then. For the prices they charge though, last night’s experience was just not...

My first and definitely not last time at McCarr's. Well designed inside and out and for summer dining on the verandah it's a natural. Staff attentive and very personable on arrival. We were offered assistance with the menu and a tasting for the wines before we made a selection. Menu leans towards Italian and all pasta appears to be home made and fresh - tagliatelle with prawns was outstanding as were the entree scallops. Oddly though, my main dish (pasta) arrived at least 10 miins. prior to the remaining main courses (fish) and was not as hot as I would have liked once I started eating. Again, the timing was out with coffee - our espressos arrived well before dessert. I expect to finish with coffee after dessert no matter when the orders are taken. My family and I have visited Berkelo Kitchen twice and we will continue to dine there. The food was absolutely delicious and they definitely stuck to their word by using fresh and tasty ingredients! The food was full of flavour and prepared with excellence. The restaurant is immaculate and the service is really friendly too. The prawn pasta dish is so fresh, the pasta is handmade in house along with their pizzas! The mushroom pizza with truffle was so delightful! I’ve also tried their market steak and it was a quality cut full of flavour. My family and I shared the apple crumble and the chocolate tart with whipped cream for dessert.
