I'm a connoisseur of Nonya cuisine. I have eaten in the finest Nonya restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne. I have also experienced Malaysian food in Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
I travelled from Rockdale for an appointment in the mall and decided to have lunch, lured by the Malaysian and Chinese food signs. This usually raises alarm bells, as most Chinese chefs cannot master actual Malaysian Noya food, especially my test dishes.
When presented with a lunch menu for under $15, we decided on two traditional dishes that test how bonafide and authentic Nonya cuisine is: Laksa and Char Koay Teow. Along with Satay, they are the measuring sticks by which all Nonya food is judged.
The Laksa was exceptionally delicious. Its authentic flavour profile of creamy coconut broth, curry leaves, generous helpings of chicken, and fresh ingredients made it stand out. I would rate it up there with the best.
Char Koay Teow is a difficult dish to master. The smoky flavour of charred noodles, caramelised by heat, combined with a mix of egg, shrimp, chicken, and sweet soy, was cooked to perfection and served with sambal. My only criticism was that the sweet sausage was missing. Again, the chef nailed the flavour.
I'm an unashamed foodie, and it brings me great joy to visit a restaurant that exceeds expectations. My Kitchen Too, would qualify as a foodie destination.
Service was terrific, warm and friendly. The atmosphere was quaint and clean.
Prices were exceptional value. Overall, I rate this place and its chef highly.
Don't be one of those people who orders online and complaines its cold, get off your bum and enjoy this restaurant and pay them cash, they deserve your support as they are serving world class nonya food that rivals the best in unlikely...
Read moreI ordered fried dim sims; 1 corn and crabmeat soup; 1 braised chicken and vegetables; 1 beef and Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce and 1 large special fried rice. When I got home my wife noticed that they had given her satay chicken instead, which none of us eat and no sweet and sour sauce for the dim sims. I rang back and they apologized and I went back and got the correct dish. They also gave me some mini spring rolls, gratis. I then drove back home, around six kilometers, through Saturday shopping traffic. When I got back home we sat down for lunch at which time I discovered that my beef and Chinese broccoli was missing the beef. I gave up contacting them again and just started eating the broccoli with the fried rice, this went ok for the broccoli stems. However the first broccoli leaf I had was full of sand or fine grit of some type, which I spat out and threw the rest of the broccoli dish away. I will never, never, never visit this restaurant again. Judging by the good reviews they have had I can only conclude that the chef and kitchen staff have...
Read moreGreat family friendly spot. Kids meals were offered with a plastic bowl, plate, fork and spoon and there were high chairs. Kids meal of fried rice and honey chicken was a good portion size, very generous with the chicken which was crispy and flavourful without being greasy. My 2 year old had wonton soup which he loved. Even more impressed that they made sure to bring the kids meals first.
Char hor fun with egg gravy was a huge serving, lots of prawns, chicken, fish cake slices and gailan. Really enjoyable. The roti canai were good and fluffy with a satisfying amount of flakiness. The beef curry with it was packed with flavour too.
We had lovely service, attentive and helpful. He even realised we were running out of clean paper napkins so gave us more.
For $60 for 4 of us at lunch including 1 drink it was such good value.
Definitely want to come back to try...
