Tailem Bend Hotel - Liquor Legends — Restaurant in Tailem Bend

We walked in and received poor service and dirty looks from everyone including the staff (it felt like it had something to do with our ethnicity). We then proceeded to wait 45 minutes to receive our food. We were not in a rush so did not mind waiting, however, we thought it was rude that the person who appeared to be the owner, came out and apologised for the wait to the two tables who ordered just before us, but not us. Again this made us uncomfortable as it became clear to us that the poor service we were receiving had some racist undertones. When the food arrived, it was quite underwhelming. The salt and pepper squid (photo attached) did not appear cooked properly- tasting very soft and mushy, so we just left it. The schnitzels were also nothing special. Walked in at 6pm on a Tuesday night. No wait staff in sight so we sat down to look over the menu. She appeared 5mins later only to chastise us for sitting down without a booking. There was no "Please wait to be seated" sign and the blackboard read order at saloon Bar so we assumed it wasn't table service. There was only 2 other people in the restaurant so I'm not sure why we needed a booking. Feeling belittled and a little dumbstruck we continued to look over the menu. The lady at the next table called the wait staff and told her the bread roll was mouldy. She was quickly told "well it can't be, it's from the bakery today!" she said I can't help that look at it. We had a great family lunch here during our Tailem Bend trip. My son loved his fish and chips, and hubby enjoyed the roast of the day. I ordered the mixed grill which was yummy; I loved trying a bit of everything. We all shared the wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce for starters which came out promptly.
