We wrongly assumed that because this was on the Piperâs Vineyard site that it would be good - wrong!
We decided, against my better judgement, to eat lunch here, in case we couldnât find anything else open.
We ordered the lamb shank pie, which came served with salad & fries. It was the first item listed on the menu, but we were advised that it wouldnât come with pastry on top, because theyâd run out, so it would have mashed potato on top instead.
The lamb casserole filling was OK, but having a lump of mash on top as well as fries was too much. The salad was very basic - a few leaves, strips of red capsicum, half a cherry tomato & a few walnuts.
I asked for some olive oil & balsamic vinegar to drizzle on my salad, as there wasnât any dressing on it. Iâm not sure what was put in the little jug, but it didnât taste like olive oil & it looked like a balsamic glaze, rather than vinegar. After eating it my mouth has been tingling, so I think whatever the oil was it was rancid. And 2 hours later, Iâm not feeling so good.
The building is very dated and noisy & it was too cool to sit outside in the courtyard. So there was not a lot going for it.

Read moreFood was good although our platter was missing at least 4 items and still got charged full price. The wooden platters/ boards are beautiful but stored on the floor resting against the wall where the staff pass constantly walking into kitchen so food crumbs ect were sitting on the ground around the boards. Also when a waitress did knock some boards over when walking past, although they fell flat on a dirty floor she just picked them up and leant them back against the wall ready to use without being washed There is no way the floor could be mopped properly without touching the platters. Eeewww. I needed to go to the counter to order another drink as I wasnât able to get staff attention from my table and in the toilet the toilet paper was just sitting on the floor as there was no holder.. food was good sadly...
Read moreWent here for lunch. The outside looks like a prison. No windows. Really strange for a winery. Our son is gluten intolerant and they donât say what is gluten free on their limited menu. One server didnât know and the other one told us a couple things could be prepared gluten free but she mentioned the chips/fries which we got and the third lady told us they werenât gluten free because of a coating and sharing the fryer. The chowder that supposedly was GF came barely warm, was bland and rather fishy with slimy squid rings. They seemed undercooked. The ambience of the inside was just okay. Didnât look like a winery and with no windows could have been anywhere....
