We chose to stay at Ringwood Hotel while attending a convention in Cressy. It is promoted online (by a previous owner) as the gateway to trout country. On the building itself, attractive wrought iron announces to passers by "Bed and Breakfast" but that is stretching it a bit, in the present regime.||||We arrived to check in after 9pm on a Friday and the joint was jumping. The bar was crowded and there was a fantastic country community ambience.||||Facilities in the bar area include Keno and a pool table.||||The proprietor was very welcoming and chatty. She had made up two bedrooms, offering us the choice of where we wished to base ourselves. She pointed out the benefits and problems with each and gave a good overview of the hotel and what was happening there over the weekend we were staying.||||There are nineteen rooms, but only one has an ensuite, and that was already taken. The bathroom we used was nice and clean and recently refurbished.||||The bedroom furniture was simple and old-fashioned, as you would expect for a country pub. It was reasonably comfortable. There was no bedside light, but there was a bedside table on one side, and a powerpoint where we were able to recharge phone and camera.||||The serve yourself breakfast was extremely basic - coffee, toast and cereal. There was only one plug, so you couldn't make toast and boil jug at same time. The room was not at all up to standard, and the proprietor did seem embarrassed to show it to me. She said she could not find a light switch so it wasn't until the morning that we saw the shocking state of the table and chairs. VERY dodgy! and on the second day the supplies were not refilled. Hmmm.||||We were staying for business but in the hotel at the same time there were bikers who had been caught in rain and decided to stay at the last minute and several people who'd come for the country and western performance on the Saturday afternoon.||||I wish the new owners all the best in refurbishing the accommodation at this hotel and congratulate them on honest communication of the problems with the place (loud conversation right outside the window in the beer garden, necessitating our drawing the curtains in daylight to maintain some privacy and trip hazard and lack of lighting between the car park and the side entrance to the rooms). Urgent upgrades...

Read moreIn summer this hotel is filled with backpackers working at the nearby farms. So you can get very good accommodation prices for long-term stays. But this comes at a cost:||- the shared kitchen gets very messy 1h after it gets cleaned. I've waited for months for the owners to do something about it. Be prepared to have to wash your dishes before and after you use them.||- the walls are made of cardboard, so when it is -3C outside it is also -3C inside. Don't expect a heater in the restaurant when there are no "real" clients (read clients buying food). If you want some heat go in your room, put the heater to the maximum and wait for 2h to get some warmth. The WiFi signal is only available in the restaurant, so you have to decide if you want Internet or heat.||- There are two washing machine available for the long-stay clients. One which tears the clothes and the other one which stops in the middle of the cycle leaving your clothes soaked and full of soap. Don't bother with the dryer, it takes your money but it doesn't really dry, so you get warm and humid clothes.||- The place is owned by a couple, the lady is very nice, always smiling and caring. I've never seen the guy smile and it was hard to make him say hello... Ever heard of customer relations ?||||On the plus side, they have a very good cook for the restaurant and the...
