The Rustic Bakehouse is the kind of country bakery that makes you wonder why you ever trusted supermarket bread in the first place. You walk in and the smell of fresh loaves, pies, and pastries hits you like a carb-flavoured hug. It’s wholesome, it’s cozy, and it’s got that small-town magic that makes you feel like a local even if you just blew in from Hobart.
The bread? Proper bread. Crunchy crusts, soft centres, the kind of stuff that makes butter feel like it’s fulfilling its true destiny. The pies are the real deal too — hearty, flaky, and filled with actual meat, not mystery filling. Bonus points for being served hot enough to test the strength of your tongue.
And don’t even get me started on the sweets. Slices, buns, tarts… basically, if it’s got sugar in it, they’ve nailed it. You’ll say, “I’ll just get one thing,” but by the time you leave you’ll be juggling a bag of goodies like a pastry clown.
The staff are country-kind, which is next-level friendly, and the vibe is exactly what you want from a regional bakehouse — no fuss, no pretense, just honest, delicious food that makes the drive worth it.
Verdict: The Rustic Bakehouse is Cressy’s carb-filled treasure chest. Come hungry, leave happy, and maybe loosen your...
Read moreI recognise the effort that went I to restoring this old wood fired bakery and the extensive menu on offer. This is a popular place and I am sure a great addition to this little community. If I could recommend some improvements, perhaps add a few more vegetarian options beyond the frittata and the curry filo: mushroom pies or pizza would be great for instance. My second thought was in regards to the donuts. I love a good jam donut and couldn't resist ordering one here given the place is famous for its donuts. The doughnut itself was delicious but I was greatly disappointed by the filling: what exactly is stopping you from replacing this generic, artificial tasting and fluorescent looking liquid with some actual local raspberry jam? This ruined it for me. Lastly, thanks for being open on a...
Read moreSuch a lovely bakery just outside of Launceston. Prices were a tiny bit dearer than you'd expect but the product was more than worth it. We got a cheesy jalapeno pie and a meat pastie. Safe to say all other pies and pasties will forever be compared to these gold standards. Cheesy jalapeno was as described but so tasty. The meat pastie could satisfy even the fiercest of hungers. We were so pleased we also added a lemon donut (as big as your face) and that was the perfect combination of sweet, creamy, and tangy.
Also got a couple of coffees and they hit the spot. Would revisit next time we swing through Tas! You should too to help support a family owned business and a piece of...
