I'm giving it 3 stars because I'm a bit ticked! I'll tell you why. First, the good stuff. It's a charming, rustic space inside, and on a sunny day, which it wasn't when we visited unfortunately, sitting outside among the beautiful, ancient cherry trees would be awesome. The menu, both food and drinks is adventurous and intriguing. There were quite a few options that we would have liked to try, but only one meal to do it in! The flavours of the food were really interesting too. We really enjoyed the food and wine. Now for the bad stuff. The time the food took to arrive, and the way it was handled was really poor. We arrived on time for our 1.30 booking. Our meals (both mains, we didn't order entrees) were both ordered promptly and together. Another table of 3 arrived after us, and ordered well after we did. Then, their meals started arriving before ours, but not all together, one person at a time got their meals delivered! Meanwhile we kept being told that ours were coming soon, maybe on 3 or 4 occasions. Eventually after about 45 minutes my wife's meal arrived, and probably another 10 minutes before mine came, meaning that she had virtually finished hers before mine even arrived! Surely, serving meals at different times is just not on and unprofessional! And it wasn't exactly busy as there were only a total of 9 people in the restaurant the whole time!! What really made us upset was even while we were still eating our meals, the owner was trying to find out what we wanted for desert as the kitchen was going to close soon. She even went to the length of bringing the specials board over to try to get us to choose what we wanted while we were still eating our mains! To be made to rush in this way really spoiled what should have been a great experience. It's not fun to leave a restaurant with...
Read moreThe food was very fresh and a great display of local produce. However $42 for a breakfast dish is exorbitant. Before the restaurant chirps back with a response as they seemingly have to others comments, I elected for this breakfast purely as a response to the server for making me feel like I wasn’t good enough to be ordering there. I asked if I could sit down for coffee. When I picked up the menu on the table she said that was the lunch menu that was not currently being served. She mentioned there were things in the cupboard I could purchase, however there was nothing there I wanted. I sat and drank my coffee only to overhear that the table next to me were ordering from a breakfast menu. I went up to the counter to ask for the menu as this was not offered as an option at any point. The lady serving made me feel as if I did not belong in her restaurant and it felt as if she checked in on me during my meal forcedly after having checked on the other table. The restaurant itself was beautiful but I wish I had entered any of the others first purely to have received a more welcoming service as this put a...
Read moreWhat a fantastic lunch! Everything about it was perfect - beautiful setting (eat outside it you can), busy, lively atmosphere but with excellent service, and of course the most amazing food. Caramelised baby octopus were my favourite but then that meant I had to rank in second place the slow-cooked lamb in flatbread with yogurt, the bruschetta with white anchovies and cherry tomatoes, the chili and garlic prawns, the venison ragout and the rabbit ravioli (which I would not have chosen myself, but was delighted that another in our party did - it was excellent!). All of these dishes were 'specials of the day' on the blackboard - we didn't even go into the menu because we couldn't turn down the specials! And all of this in little Geeveston! This lunch would have been amazing in Sydney, Melbourne, indeed anywhere in the world. The Bank at Geeveston certainly punches WAY above its...
