What really endeared my partner and I to Grunthal brew is the chill atmosphere and delicious food, to be more specific, the pizzas. First time we came a couple of years ago and was blown away bu the pepperoni pizza with the honey drizzle. What was really impressive was how such a large dough pizza could keep a crispy, non mushy buttom. Side note, I hate woodfire pizza because it just turns into a soggy mess within seconds. So , the pepperoni pizza became a mainstay and we would travel from the western suburbs to spend a couple of hours in the hills, it's a great afternoon.

We were at Grunthal in December and ordered our usual. We noticed then that something was a little different with the pizza. It didn't have that shine we had come to expect and I remember my partner and I commented on it together. We left satisfied and hoped that it was just going to be one of those off days.

Yesterday however we came in and was greetiled as always by amazing staff. We got seated, ordered our usual and waited. I can't tell you how disappointed we were once we pulled off the first slice. Though the pizza visually looked amazing, the base of the pizza was a soggy mess, with no structure what so ever. Normally we wouldn't be able to finish the whole pizza and would ask for a box to take left overs home. Yesterday was the first time we left half a pie on our table and just left.

Years ago when we first came to grunthal I spoke highly about this pizza to my friends and co-workers. I told them explicitly about how this was a larger pizza but still managed to have a crispy bottom, one of the greatest pizzas I've ever had. I can no longer say this.

I don't know what's happened, we will be back 1 more time and maybe we will ask for the pizza to be cooked for longer. Something happened here, and after the last 2 visits I feel it may no longer be worth the drive up to the hills as it once was.

I just wanted to call this out from a personal aspect, I wish you guys all the best. Staff are always friendly...

The current price of fuel is better value than Grűnthal.....

It feels like they have tried to replicate a mini version of Lot100 with its segregated offerings of beer, wine, gin, pizza and cheese, but instead of feeling homely & cohesive, it felt cold and lacking in identity.

With no table service, you even have the pleasure of waiting at the bar to take your own drinks back to the table.

Now this all may sound a little precious of me and I would have happily overlooked these grievances had the prices reflected the experience, but when your being charged fine dining prices you expect more than a tricked up market cafe type experience.

Our bill (for two) was $125... this only included;

1 Glass of local Chardonnay $15 4 Oysters for $20 (seriously, not even the best restaurants in town sell oysters at $5 each) Cheese Fondue $60 (plus $30 for extra cheese portion)

This was the straw that broke the camels back. The Cheese Fondue ( already priced at $60) looked more like a bread board with a very limited portion of cheese and fruit with which to dunk (see picture) We showed one of the staff and they said "sorry thats just our portions", so naturally we requested some extra cheese to go with our bread hahaha. For this we were charged another $30. Our mouths dropped. (To put that in perspective, they only charge $22 for their menu listed cheese board... please explain!!) Also a fondue should showcase a variety of fresh produce to cut through the richness of the cheese... again not enough of that here.

As Adelaide Hills locals of 12yrs we had wanted so much to fall in love and make this our newest local to bring family & friends, but unfortunately instead of leaving feeling satisfied... we left feeling "disGrunthal".

As a dining venue, save your money perspective diners and fill up your car with a tank of...

Our visit to Grunthal Brew was the perfect way to kick off our beer, winery, and gin tour, and it left a fantastic first impression. From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear that they had gone the extra mile to make our visit special. The tables were set and ready for our large group.

What truly stood out was the unique approach to experiencing their beer. A paddle of beer was placed in front of us, allowing us to explore and decide for ourselves which brew we preferred. It was a fun and interactive way to get to know their beer selection.

Now, on to the pizza! The moment the pepperoni pizza arrived with that intriguing sticky substance – honey – I was initially taken aback. It seemed like a bold move, and I was a bit skeptical. However, one cautious bite was all it took to change my mind completely. It was an absolute revelation! The combination of the savory pepperoni and the sweet honey was a taste sensation I hadn't anticipated. It was truly amazing!

But the pizza adventure didn't end there. Grunthal Brew kept the delicious offerings coming – Margherita, beef brisket, and more. Each pizza had its own unique twist and flavor profile that kept us intruiged.

A handy tip for anyone visiting is to ask for the Aioli, truffle, and mustard sauce. It's a truly interesting combination that elevates the meal to a whole new level.

In summary, Grunthal Brew is a fantastic place to visit, enjoy a meal, and discover some of the best pizzas you've ever had. The friendly and accommodating atmosphere, the innovative beer presentation, and the delightful culinary surprises all make for an exceptional experience. If you're in the area, I highly recommend a visit to Grunthal Brew – it's a culinary adventure you won't...

Excellent coffee, hot, correctly strong and not drowning in milk, pretty impressive strawberry macaroon also, filling was made on a salted buttercream and whilst it would have been enhanced by the use of unsalted butter it was, nevertheless, soft, fresh, delightfully light and fluffy-the meringue was exceptionally light, fresh, crisp and enjoyable-the occasional “hundred & thousand” was a lovely juxtaposition in texture between the light crisp meringue and soft fluffy cream filling. A very good bite or two Feb 2023: There’s always the risk that upon returning to a place where you have a gilded memory of good fare and customer service, you find your past experience to have been a transient one off fortuitous nexus of good timing, staff and accomplished culinary Artisans, but slightly different fare at Grunthal Brew STILL holds the adventure of well juxtaposed textures, Adelaide Hills wholesome ingredients and is heralded with the same exceptional customer service as before.
