What a surprise! When we came in after a very long drive, nothing made us think we will have a good experience - something about the setting and location felt like we would be looking at "edible" at best, but the again we were out of options. We ordered a soup, a pizza and a bolognese pasta - and while the pizza was just "ok", the soup and pasta were delicious, tasted home-made with delicate flavours and seasoning. Not gourmet - but the kind of food you'd get at a good cook's home. Since we had such a nice surprise, we ordered an apple strudel which was excellent! Crispy, buttery, flaky but not dry , not too sweet . Our maître d when he could stop patting my partner condescendingly on the shoulder insisted we buy a whole bottle of wine instead of 2 glasses because it was cheaper, in fact it was double. Add to this a $20 salad (which was quite edible) and you have a $95 dinner that would have possibly been adequate for lunch for one adult; a scandalous rip off..avoid at all costs unless you enjoy nipping into a modest cafe with the expectation of a quick and economical meal to be charged at 5 star rates for no star food....
Read moreMy husband and I were staying in Dinner Plain for a little winter getaway and Alphutte was a great find in the village. Our first night we grabbed a cocktail and sat by the fire, I overheard the server explaining the menu and knew we needed to come for dinner. Our starter of the house made focaccia with hummus was the perfect beginning. Don’t skip dessert! The sticky fig pudding has over taken my love of sticky date. And the peanut butter sauce on the brownie was a classic combo. A must go when in...
